At the time of writing, Chaos;Child is now my 2nd favorite game in the Sci;Adv series. The story and main characters left a pretty big impact on my mind, as well as the psychological thriller of the narrative that legit had me sitting on the edge of my seat at certain moments. It was also neat to see how the story parallels Chaos;Head in many ways (both in- and out-of-universe). For instance the protag Takumi from C;H was a classic shut-in, not wanting to do anything with the world or anyone, and preferred to run away from main plot. Takuru in C;C on the other hand wanted to pursue the main mystery, while everyone around him just wanted him to live a normal school life. My only complaints with Chaos;Child are that the pacing did feel a little jarring, some of the villains not having much screentime or nonsensical motivations, and the big plot twist about the story sorta felt like it came out of nowhere. It felt like a deus ex machina vehicle to enable new interactions between the main lead characters, but it was actually written so well that I was willing to overlook it.

Before anything, for the best experience, I strongly recommend you to play CHAOS;HEAD NOAH before playing this game. CHAOS;HEAD NOAH is the prequel to this game. This game frequently references events and concepts that took place in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. Second, it's important to note that using the E key to skip lines, just like how you could in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, is a life saver for those seeking 100% completion! CHAOS;CHILD is an absolute masterpiece. CHAOS;CHILD is part of the Science Adventure series, and I have got to say, it's one of the best entries in the series. My enjoyment of CHAOS;CHILD exceeded almost all other games in the series I have played up until now. The story is amazing. CHAOS;CHILD vs. CHAOS;HEAD NOAH - CHAOS;CHILD is a thematic sequel to CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, which is the first entry in a larger game series known as the Science Adventure Series. CHAOS;CHILD is set 6 years following the events of CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, in 2015, but the story actually begins during the 2009 Shibuya Earthquake that occurred in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. - CHAOS;CHILD revolves around a new cast of characters that weren't in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, however, there are a few characters from CHAOS;HEAD NOAH that make appearances as side characters either through the online world or in person throughout the story. - Both CHAOS;CHILD and CHAOS;HEAD NOAH take place in Shibuya, however CHAOS;CHILD takes place in different settings within Shibuya. - The plot in CHAOS;CHILD is completely different than CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. - There are positive and negative delusion triggers in CHAOS;CHILD just like how there were in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. It's been completely remastered, and looks so much more beautiful in CHAOS;CHILD. There's also a new type of delusion trigger type that rarely appears called the "More" trigger which is white. Use it and find out what it does, hehehe. To sum it up: CHAOS;CHILD takes place within the same universe as CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. C;C just takes place 6 years ahead of C;HN and C;C features new characters, settings, a plot and a new delusion trigger type that weren't a part of C;HN. About CHAOS;CHILD In CHAOS;CHILD, the New Generation Madness (that you may recall from CHAOS;HEAD NOAH) makes a comeback for a second time in history with....sumo stickers decorated all around parts of Shibuya?! Orphan Hekiho Academy Newspaper Club President Miyashiro Takuru ("Taku") wants to get to the bottom of it and figure out why these gruesome murders have returned. At the same, new gigalomaniacs with the ability to wield Di-Swords (CHAOS;HEAD NOAH references), have returned! In this story, for some reason, Kurusu Nono - Taku's older stepsister who is also an orphan like Taku and the vice president of the newspaper club, seems to urge Taku to stay away from the investigation of the return of the New Gen Madness. And Taku's memories of his childhood best friend Serika Onoe are... pretty sharp, Taku has so many memories of being with her and Taku knows so much about her, for as long as he can remember...but his knowledge of Serika is just not that sharp for some reason. Play to find out the answers to Kurusu and Serika's mysteries and to unveil the secret behind the return of the New Generation Madness as well as the appearances of these new Gigalomaniacs and the sumo stickers! My Review of CHAOS;CHILD First off, I want to note that [url=https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/chaoschild-steam.html] I experienced CHAOS;CHILD using the Committee of Zero fan patch ("CHAOS;CHILD Improvement Patch") in order to read more accurate translations! Wow, this story is absolutely amazing! My enjoyment of CHAOS;CHILD was x100 times more than CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. CHAOS;HEAD NOAH failed to keep me hooked for a while, but CHAOS;CHILD had me in its grasp for the entire story. Not only is the story of CHAOS;CHILD rich, but the shocks/twists hidden inside of it are a lot and they're quite strong! I haven't been this shocked in other Science Adventure series visual novels I have read up until now! Who would have thought that Sakuma (Taku's dad) would be an antagonist and that our own teacher Wakui would be a member of the Committee of 300! And who would have thought that Onoe is just a delusion that Taku created! It's sad that Taku's wish during the 2009 earthquake was to feel pride by showing the whole world a huge accomplishment (or that he's basically a right-sider for doing something right) so he created Onoe just to accomplish that. It's very sad knowing that Onoe's purpose was to just make that wish of Taku's a dream come true by creating the "game". All of those people died just for Onoe to satisfy Taku. I have to be honest though, for the first time in a Science Adventure series visual novel, I prefer the common route ending over the true route ending. I honestly prefer being together with Onoe after all we went through, like how it was suggested at the end of the common route ending rather than Taku's preference of a resolution to Onoe's story which is letting her live a normal life (like how he intended when he "ended" "her" with his Di-Sword near the end of the common route ending), acting like he doesn't know Onoe and vise vera, being separated..you know, basically not "clinging to the girl he loves forever", as described by himself. As much as I loved the common route ending, I also absolutely loved the ending to Nono's route. Seeing her inner identification crisis resolved was an amazing story. I was happy to see Senri accept herself for who she is and atoning for her identity fraud at the end of her route. Here are some extra notes I took feel free to read them: - This Science Adventure series entry has a lot of "AHHHHHHHH"-like screams in it, the most I've seen up until now in the series, but that's fine, I love hearing the screams like a psychopath, lmao. - Arimura is into homosexual male literature. She's into it so badly that it turns her on. - I loved how Hana's route brought us back together with Takuru from CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. - Itou and Kurosato-san are so reminiscent to Misumi and Sena Aoi from CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, don't you think? - The world being both lies and truths such a true quote and lesson from the Arimura route. - That credit roll before the end of the true route almost had me there, haha, I almost thought the true route ended on a cliff hanger. - I love the sprite, CG and animation quality in CHAOS;CHILD. It's quite an upgrade compared to the quality that CHAOS;HEAD NOAH had. - ITOU IS AN ALIEN!!!! IT'S GOT TO BE CANON! THE COMMON ROUTE BAD ENDING IS PROOF! THAT WAS NOT A DELUSION! My Pain Points On CHAOS;CHILD 1. I loved the TV shutting sound effect that played once a delusion ended in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, but unfortunately, no sound effect plays in CHAOS;CHILD when a delusion is over. I really wish we had some sort of sound effect that played once the delusion is over. 2. Similar to a pain point I had in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, I wish we could skip entire chapters after reaching the common route ending of CHAOS;CHILD. This would make it easier to reach chapters about the girls. For instance, if we had to do something in chapter 3 to reach girl A's ending which begins after chapter 6, then allow us to skip chapters 4, 5 and 6 entirely. This would be more convenient and faster than using the E key to skip. Overall Rating: 10/10

This was one of the most beautiful experiences of my entire life. I don't know where to start, but probably the best place would be talking about the story. This story is pretty complex and extense. Comparing it to other SciAdv titles such as Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate or even Robotics;Notes, this game offers one of the longest stories in the saga. The story is filled with a lot of mixed feelings, beautiful ones, traumatizing ones, sad ones, a lot of them, but in the end, it's just perfect. Talking about the characters, everyone is unique on its own way, as always, the characters are filled with essence and complexity, with mistery... Everything. If you are hesitant to buy this game, I can assure you, you won't regret it, this is one of the best games I've played in my life. It's just... peak fiction, too perfect to be true. Thank you for changing my life Chaos;Child, or at least, for making it better. Adiós, gracias!

Chaos;Child is a basically perfect mix of murder mystery, psychological drama, fun Sci-fi magic, and likable characters. I was honestly floored that outside maybe the first several hours, the visual novel was consistently quite interesting or entertaining. Country to popular belief from the hardcore Sci;Adv fanboys, you do NOT need to read other Science;Adventure visual novels first. In fact, I think Chaos;Child is one of the better ones to start off with since it has a good balance of mixing slice of Life character development as well as introducing mystery plot elements. It can help you find out if you like the ideas of Sci;Adv before going into others. But if you’re sure you wanna read all the Sci;Adv VNs, then find one of those online guides to read from Chaos;Head Noah up to Anonymous;Code. Many of the Science;Adventure series usually have like 1-3 good characters and the rest are boring, annoying, or nowhere near fleshed out as they should be. In my opinion I think all the major characters of Chaos;Child all eventually get enough depth to stick out. Sure there are still some that probably could have used a little more love like Uki, Hana, and Mio but even I thought they had just enough for me to have something of an emotional connection to them, which I can't say for 90% of the cast of Steins;Gate or Chaos;Head. As said earlier, the mystery stuff is basically paced almost perfectly. You have a murder mystery scenario within the first chapter and every single chapter has some really interesting reveal, so you're never left hanging. This also extends to the heroine routes when you get on them. While this visual novel has a lot of sci-fi magic that could’ve lead to dumb deus ex machinas, Chaos;Child does a surprisingly good job having a good balance of hopeful/positive twists but also not reversing any big negative twist (like KEY). In fact, you can make the argument that sometimes the way some routes end are probably a little too edgy at times. But once again I think Chaos;Child has a good balance of having hopeful things happen and negative things happen where the characters just have to live with the consequences. Chaos;Child also has a very consistent theme of “be careful what you wish for”. It’s a theme I find is only used in certain occasion in other media. I like how this theme applies to many characters and works great with how the sci-fi magic works in Chaos;Child. The story structure is definitely very weird and a carryover from Chaos;head. The vast majority of the story is in the common route which you are forced onto on your first read through. I could see how this could bother some people since the common route on its own could be somewhere between 20 to 40 hours depending on your reading speed since it has 11 chapters of variable lengths. However, I'm glad this visual novel at least did something relatively different because the common route is very much its own complete story with a very definitive end. And honestly, if the story ended there, it could have been a great story on its own. I generally have positive things to say about every heroine route + true route. They are all on the short side being somewhere between two to five hours depending on your reading speed. They basically feel more like giving context to certain characters and world building that the common route couldn't quite tackle. I thought this route aspect worked surprisingly well simultaneously giving the other main heroines a different role while not taking away from the main story and especially the true route twists. A minor nitpick is I wish more of the side heroine twists were integrated in the main story. However, one thing I don't have positive things to say about is the delusion choice system, another carryover from the spiritual prequel Chaos;Head. In Chaos;Head, the delusion trigger system made more sense for the main character as he was exceptionally paranoid. In Chaos;Child, the delusion trigger works exactly the same where you can choose positive or negative delusions based on certain slice of life scenarios. Unfortunately, all these just feel like dumb tacked-on anime fan service scenes. Since these all happen in the main character Takuru’s head, they can range from goofy references to other media, typical horny male fantasizing over females, or just super random mundane things. What doesn't help is that you have to watch a certain amount of positive or negative delusions to get onto the heroine routes. Thankfully, if you really don't like these scenes, you could probably just hold the Skip button during the scenes you don't like because none of them are plot relevant. Thankfully the delusion trigger aspect is the only real flaw I have with Chaos;Child besides the occasional slow pacing issue which is just a common thing with visual novels in general. The “best for last” aspect I want to talk about is the characters and as I basically implied earlier, they are what help carry this visual novel to now one of my new favorites. Admittedly, almost none of them are in the running for my favorite character or anything. In fact, you could make the argument that a few of them are purposely unlikable at times, including our main character Takuru. Some people may be put off by him because of how low-key arrogant he is despite clearly being socially awkward. But he gets a surprising amount of depth, and while his development wasn't always great, the way he turned out by the end was satisfying. All the major heroines are decently likable: Nono being an overprotective mom but for good reason, Hinae being a troll who has clear trust issues, Hana having a mystery of why she never talks, Uki’s desire to always want to be helpful to people, and even Mio who starts off as a bitch but gets more tolerable over time. However, the true star of the show is easily Serika and is now in the running for one of my favorite visual novel heroines. I really like her base personality of just being a goofy ditzy weirdo. In every single scene she's in, she provides some fun commentary, jokes, or super interesting dialogue.. As you get farther in the game, she shows a lot more depth than you realize and the fact that they don't sugarcoat things about certain aspects about her was part of why I really like her even if she does some things that aren't really “waifu-like". But that's fine, not every visual novel girl has to specifically be a waifu target, we got plenty of childhood friend characters in weeb media. The more I think about it, the more that chaos child was basically the perfect storm of what I want in a plot-heavy mystery focused visual novel. It’s just consistently entertaining and interesting, and despite all the sci-fi magic stuff and things getting a bit edgy at times, everything either has a proper explanation or has really good character growth and depth that generally made the storytelling understandable. I'm still debating whether to give this a 9 or 10, but when I have almost nothing but positive things to say, I think that's a good sign that this is now one of my favorite visual novels. I heavily recommend Chaos;Child if you want a mystery and/or psychological story and don't mind some sci-fi magic explanations.
