It's a very short game and apart from maybe 1 or 2 brain teasers is a fairly straight forward experience from start to finish. Absolutely perfect for the steam deck, honestly if you need a platformer for the deck this is one of your best bets hands down. The short game time and the ability to save and quit whenever makes short play sessions more then perfect. The graphics is very on point, models look fantastic and perfectly implements 2D sprites when appropriate. The look and design of the worlds never feel out of place and the collectibles are always placed in sensible locations and the secrets are well telegraphed so I never had an issue finding everything. The music is phenomenal and perfectly evokes the feeling of a dreamlike state and subsequently terror and nightmares. The game feel and gameplay plays exactly as you expect them to feel that is to say a little more responsive then your average N64 title but still old school in a pleasant way. Honestly my biggest issue with the game is that the power ups feel a little inconsequential and one of them I never really used outside the 4 or so puzzles that actually required it. I wish the powerups where either unlocked from the start or had more of an impact. Overall it's a very comfy game that does exactly what it sets out to do and I can not recommend it enough if you're into 3D platformers and collectathons.

It's just like the good old classic Spyro games: a cute platformer game about collecting eggs with a tiny dragon in various biomes. If you want to scratch that nostalgia itch, then I highly recommend it and you can easily beat it in 5-6 hours getting everything. That being said, be aware if you wanna show this to your kids, because while it looks cute for the most part, some of the later levels are pretty dark/depressing and might be scary to them. (Not to mention the difficulty, but that's part of its charm.)

If you're looking for a game that captures the feeling of N64 collectathons, I don't think I have played a game that has captured that feeling more than Cavern of Dreams. It is an incredibly charming game that does an excellent job making exploration fun, containing many secret areas that exist just to encourage players to explore. If you were someone who would load game saves just to explore the worlds of your favorite games, like I did with Banjo-Tooie, then I'm sure you'll love this game. I would ignore that dude talking about Spyro. It sounds like either his parents hated him or he hates his kids. Either way, it seems like he vented those frustrations in a review.

Incredible work by an incredibly tiny crew. This is made with pure love. You can feel that love on every little detail of this game. This game allowed me to relive the fantasy of playing games in my childhood, something no other retro game ever quite captured like this. In part, because we humans grow up of course, but also, there was something about mystery and wonder in discovery that newer games just can't emulate to an adult brain. But Cavern of Dreams could, I felt just like a kid who didn't quite understand games yet, just roaming around digital worlds for fun. And this game knows that feeling. I loved this.

A charming little 3D-platformer with distinct and unique controls. It's neither too hard nor too long, not at all complicated and confusing like its 90s "contemporaries" - something I very much appreciate here in this case. The game feels very relaxing, it's almost like falling asleep in your childhood bed. Really liked the dreamy vibes, the "historically"-accurate lo-fi art and kinda eerie, liminal feeling levels. I also loved how the game turned to the darker tone near the end, I really like that kind of the final stretches in games in general.
