My favorite successor to Luck Be a Landlord so far. The translation leaves something to be desired, but the addition of auto-battler shop mechanics and the distinct families of animals does a lot to improve replayability... kind of? I think the balance is not as tight as LBaL and you'll quickly hit plateaus where each challenge level is either totally trivial or requires you to totally change your gameplan. The families also make it a little too easy to force strategies for my taste. Still overall a positive experience.

Cat God Ranch is a pretty unique take on an existing genre, the type of game that would have been a board game a few years back, and I think that's the best way to try and analogize this to being a deckbuilder, because from its appearance and presentation alone that's not what immediately springs to mind. I quite enjoy this game from a gameplay standpoint, while rare to see runs like the one in the trailer (which is very cherry-picked), they do happen and they are really satisfying to pull off. The game rewards finding combos, both incentivized and other, and isn't shy to let the player "go infinite", so to speak, this is combined with an endless mode after every run, should you wish it. It's important to note that one of the strengths of the game is that everything works as advertised, in my 7 hours of game time I haven't found a card that didn't work or didn't do what it said, although some of the translations are scuffed. The runs are quick, quicker even when you increase the animations or skip them entirely. There's an obscene amount of animals both to unlock and play, and with a plethora of viable strategies at your hand you're bound to get a few good hours of content out of this game. Visually the game also looks great, the cutesy aesthetics and sounds really lend themselves to a comfy attitude that just about anyone can appreciate. All animals have a unique sound they make on activation which more or less resembles (or sometimes doesn't) what they sound like, which adds a goofy charm on top. My biggest gripes with it are minor at best, and could be chalked up to a lack of skill, but I'm finding it difficult to make certain animals work, to the point where I consider a good 30% of them to be dead-weight or early-game picks you'll have to remove later. That could be intentional, but it just feels bad, transitioning isn't exactly easy in this game and the currency you use to purchase is the same you use for recycling old animals. The progression in the game also feels kind of slow and tedious to a point, but it's part of the roguelike experience and as long as the gameplay loop is fun (which it is), it's fine. That being said, all in all for a Chinese dev team with no prior history, this is definitely a banger first game, and I'm personally excited to see what future updates the game holds, and if none, what other games they're planning to make. I'm definitely recommending this game.

Overall it's a cute, fun, and highly addictive game. My only problem is that its very frustrating when you have figured out ways to generate points that are magnitudes above the stage requirement only for your points to go integer overflow and end up not pass the stage (you can do this very consistently with some combinations of animals in the mouse-rabbit family and crawling family). Games like Balatro also have this issue but it happens way more often in this game even when you are not intentionally trying to break the game. Maybe some sort of Bignum implementation can solve this issue.

A pretty cute combination of deck building with some light auto-battle mechanics. There are lots of different strategies to try out and each of the faction combinations feels fairly distinct.

Super fun!! I played the demo and I've been waiting for it to come out ever since. I love all the animal art, sound design and UI design. The puzzling is pretty simple but satisfying logic and probability. It's really satisfying when all the animals come out on the right spots and you get the big bucks. There are a few effect rules that feel a little lost in translation but I'm really looking forward to unlocking all the critters.
