This game is cute. It's definitely not my favorite, but its still fun, and I'll definitely try and complete all the achievements on it. The art and characters are cute. You get minimal options for your own characters look, but its not the emphasis of the game, so that doesn't bother me. You get enough skin tones and hair variations to make someone who at least somewhat looks like you. You also get an option of three traits to give yourself. That brings me to my first problem. The traits themselves are fine, and I like them, but its the stats that the traits affect that annoy me. I tried playing this game by allocating stats into what I felt like described me. My social was low and my cooking was high, and I knew I was going to struggle until I got staff, but then I got them and it still was annoying. The game clearly prioritizes the player having social skills as one of the only things I noticed staff couldn't do was chat with customers. I don't know if this is a bug or how its intended, but it makes it pointless to invest in anything but that once you get your first staff because your staff can do every other stat for you. It's not the end of the world, you just don't get as much pay, and it takes a little longer, but so far it hasn't been completely bothering me. I want to restart my save now knowing this to maximize, but theres nothing forcing you to do that. Outside of the art, the story so far has been cute. The characters are diverse, although they're relatively one dimensional so far (I'm on level 3 of friendship, so take it with a grain of salt.) The progression is a good pace, not too fast but not too slow. Next issue I have comes with the currency. Rather than having one big currency, currency is split into 6 different categories based on what you want to buy. You can change around "advertisements", which changes who comes to your cafe, so you can streamline what currency your getting, but it slows progression so much, especially in the early game. I don't mind the categories, and honestly kind of like them, but I think 6 is a little excessive. Again, its not a game breaking issue, just creates a little annoyance when they get extremely skewed, and it feels like I can't really streamline them without being punished in some way. My final issue comes with the cats. They're cute, I love their system, and my issue doesn't actually really effect gameplay, so I'm willing to overlook it, but the cats have needs that I feel like weren't explained the greatest. You can completely ignore them for what seems like no punishment, which feels a bit odd. Also, fufilling some of these needs is locked behind progression, meaning you cant even begin to fufil them until youre decently into the story. I think that sums up my main problem. Progression feels clunky. You either get punished for doing things uniquely or you go completely unpunished for things that feel like they should be bigger? I like the game, hence why I'm reccomending it, so don't think mostly negative review the wrong way. I'm especially forgiving knowing theyre working a 2nd one now, and I think if they fix a couple of these issues I will love the game. I would buy it on sale, if anything. TLDR : Progression feels clunky but the game is otherwise cute & fun. Buy on sale, imo!

I had fun with this one. The gameplay loop is pretty much exactly what you'd expect – you sell food and drinks to customers, who pay you in resources that you use to buy upgrades and unlock more food items and furniture and whatnot. The art is cute, there's a storyline even if it's a bit of a light touch, and there are some NPCs with amusing dialogue (I particularly liked the punk and the business guy). It took me about 12 hours to complete the main storyline, and the 17.4 you should see attached to this review to get 100% achievements. The main critiques I have of this game are really of the Steam Deck support. I COULD NOT figure out how to exit the game from actually within the game; all I could do was save it (or wait for the start-of-day autosave) and exit the game from the Steam menu. Additionally, the game really needs some kind of confirmation dialog before letting you sell furniture/decorative items, because I accidentally sold sooooo many items in the early days (before I learned to be super cautious). Or at least an "undo", you know. But in the grand scheme of things these are minor complaints.

i was locked in for nearly 3 hours on the first launch. the creative currency system allows for nearly constant changes in customer needs like recipes and furniture. it's hard to describe but i think it's a cool way to keep the game from getting boring or too repetitive. there's a stardew valley-type beat storyline that is suspenseful and leaves you wondering what else will be uncovered. i feel sympathy for the characters even though i haven't been through their experiences and i just met them. to me, this means the dialogue is well-written. the cat puns are good but i don't feel like i'm getting whacked over the head with them constantly. i've always loved time management cooking games. this one is a little less time management, more strategy, more relaxed. the decorations are cute and the customer groups are fun. you have way more creative freedom with building and designing your cafe than i've seen in other games. i recc if you like restaurant sims but are also looking for something cute and relaxing with some compelling interpersonal dynamics mixed in.

Extremely cute, simple, and fun resource manager. I really enjoyed the gameplay loop, funny writing, cat variety, well-executed representation in the story characters, and the character art. The story isn't super in-depth but still manages to allude to some important topics. I've read some people think it's too shallow, but it really doesn't advertise itself as some hugely important or deeply meaningful story. Despite that, it still manages to include a variety of backgrounds, interests, and identities both in the customers and the story characters. I've also seen some criticism that you can't have a cafΓ© with one theme, but you certainly can towards the latter portions of the game. Early, it's smart to appeal to all types and target farm certain currency you're falling behind on. However, my cafΓ© runs amazingly in the end with a largely cohesive theme and manages to generate all the currencies fine. As for some (mostly inconsequential) negatives, the game is a little restrictive with what items can be placed outside or inside. For example, I'd love to be able to place the harvest wheelbarrow outside. A lot of wall items are positioned too "low" to where you can seldom place many types of items in front of them without blocking them. Other items can sometimes be off-centered on their tile (such as being on the bottom border of the tile) to where they look awkward facing certain directions or certain locations. The more glaring issues are that the game appears to sometimes hang or stutter badly when the after-day summary appears if you play through too many days in one session (and it is not related to my specs), and occasionally cats or staff will get stuck under furniture or outside walls (if you decide to create walls for dimension indoors). As for improvements, It'd be nice to be able to rotate things 45Β° as most things can only be rotated 90Β° (and sometimes only 180Β° or not at all). I also wish there were even more wallpaper and flooring options, and more content with ||Hoover|| aside from being a ||limited-stock vendor||! Lastly, it'd be nice to have less of an overreliance on business people and their respective currency or some way to convert the excess or abundance of other currency into currency you need. Overall, I definitely recommend this game if you go into it with the realistic expectations that it is a simple resource manager where you try to lure in a cute variety of cats, appeal to different subsets of customers, and design your own cafΓ©. Hopefully there are a few improvements in Cat CafΓ© Manager 2, which I'm excited to buy when it comes out!
