I really have enjoyed my time a lot with this series, and 2 here is no exception. UI and other quality-of-life improvements over the predecessor are quite nice. The English translation also feels better overall than the first game's, to this American English speaker; the occasional ambiguity in text seems more intentional this time around. Though there are some distinct readability issues, a big one with words crossing line breaks, that still distract. There are a couple minor plot points / references that are uncomfortable for reasons outside of this being a murder mystery. This might just be a personal issue, so I mention it in passing and move on. Overall, I continue to approve of this game and series, and look forward to more work from this team.

Did you like the first CaseCracker? Then this is more of the same great case-cracking experience. You start off with a single case file and from there you can search for terms that appear. Persons of interest that you find will also comment on the pieces of evidence and relevant locations that you find, so it's worth going back and seeing what they have to say. Also, definitely play the first game if you haven't already, it's also great and there definitely seems to be an overarching plotline in the background.

Every year, I wonder what indie to mid-tier detective game will get released and become THE game of the year for me. It's easily the genre I care about most. Reading Ellery Queen, Agatha Christie, John Dickson Carr is great fun, but there's a really enjoyable extra layer of interaction when someone builds a real solve-it-yourself murder mystery game. So last year, there was Paranormasight. The year before there was The Centennial Case- neither of them clones of Ace Attorney or Danganronpa but still occupying a similar space. A few years ago, the first Casecracker game came out. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It provided a novel way of interacting with murder mystery cases somewhat reminiscent of the keyword searches in Her Story but much more involved. The interface, as if by magic, does a terrific job of selling the idea that you're using this real-world interface to solve cases. All of it is connected, per the usual standards of the genre, into a big meta-case, but there are also lots of side puzzles and strange rabbit holes to get lost in. It was a great game, and for being nearly a 1-2 person operation, very impressive. Casecracker2 refines and enlarges what the first game did well. The surprisingly catchy soundtrack (assembled from creative commons, but the tracks are well-chosen to enhance atmosphere and absorption in the cases) returns as does the general interface. The game overall took me several hours longer, and several of the cases have some really interesting left turns. There are also additional ways of interacting with clues now that there are pictures and sound files that can have clues hidden within them. My only very minor complaint is that one or two of the audio messages had a thick accent that made it difficult to understand, but I think I eventually got what I needed. I also felt more motivated to chase down some of the secondary clues. Overall, I was just even more drawn to this game than the first one and beat it in several longer glued-to-the-screen sittings. So we'll see what the rest of 2024 holds, but for now CaseCracker2 has a pretty good chance of taking the title. Well done and here's hoping for a Casecracker3!

This is one of the BEST mystery games/series around, very underrated. If you like games like Orwell or Cyber Manhunt you will love this game. You have to find clues in the testimony of various characters and unravel not just a series of 5 whodunnit style mysteries (all decently challenging while being very logical and well explained), but also a larger meta conspiracy mystery. Its multimedia, involving email, game clues and website clues as well.

The CaseCracker2 is rarely relaxing and brain burning game,it's a good pastime in my boring life. The 2nd generation is much simpler than the 1st due to the need for the plot, and the search for clues is also much more convenient. Many hidden easter eggs are also very interesting! Looking forward to the appearance of the 3rd installment,I will support it as soon as possible!
