good game could do with more units and nations maybe, also more strike packages other then a A-10 bomb. Needs more game modes and a few other things like the ability to customise units but otherwise a good game hopefully next one is more modern combat/units maybe WW3 based idea.

I like the game, generally, though my problem comes from the lack of a detailed tutorial that explains everything that would be properly useful and basic tactics in order. I had to have a friend who's played the game already teach me things I need to know right away and that the rest will come with playing the game.

Edit after around 45 hours of gameplay: + Very fun and addictive gameplay. I play singleplayer + Game is a lot better with "hardcore realism" option toggled on which makes everyone on the battlefield die after a few hits instead of being bullet sponges. - This could be awesome if you have friends to play this with you, it's like playing with armymen as kids together. really awesome. Shame friends that would like to play the same games as you don't exist :( - I keep getting "loot crates" for playing and microtranscation-bullshit that I pretty much ignore. - It seems the development of this game has completely died off, well it's a game from 6 years ago. What can anyone expect. + I had very few performance or crashes which is great. - I would not say this game is polished but it is in a very stable state. Original review: Super short review: Fun casual milsim, let's you play all units from first person which is really cool. Makes anyone who was a kid and liked playing army-men happy. Very cheap on sale and worth the small amount I paid for it. I hope they add a "pause" option. All of my thoughts (negatives at the end): So the game was on sale on Steam sale and I pulled the trigger on it with the "mandatory" DLCs. I'm six hours into playing the game and so far I'm having a blast. The game allows the player to jump between RTS view and FPS view in a click of a button, making the player both the commander and each unit he selects. There are around 5-6 factions to choose from (US, RU, etc..) each with it's own modern weapons and real-life vehicles. Why I like it enough to write about it: - Almost every unit in the game is controllable may it be infantry with a variety of weapons, vehicles ranging armored cars to tanks and even helicopters. Taking direct control of units makes you feel like you are an active part of the battle and can "enhance" your selected unit. Feels really fun. - The game allows the player to "play army-men" with a semi-realistic-modern-setting. As a someone who used to be that kid that played with plastic military figures(army men) in make-belief-fantasy-conflict, this is a dream come true. - As the casual player that I am, I mainly played against "Normal AI", and I find it's challenging enough to make me want to learn the mechanics of the game and come back to it. - The game even has co-op mode which I am yet to try, but it might be really fun to "play army-men" together with a friend and conquer the enemy. - The game seems to have a lot of mods on the Workshop to enhance the game-play in different ways. That's cool. - The game has a "Conquest mode" where the player creates a "deck" of units that can be deployed on the battlefield. Where the goal is to either defend a location, or to attack a location\levels. There are about 6 locations\levels which the player is supposed to control them all to win the conflict. Holding a location provides extra resources which allow the player to get more points to build his deck with between battles over a location. At the start of the conflict you have limited resources which forces you to use "basic units" until you get the more advanced ones, which makes the player like he earned the right to use them. What I don't like about it: 1. Balancing is a bit weird, it seems like some of the vehicles are bullet-sponges and completely ignore rather potent weapons. (See T72 ignoring 25mm auto-cannon from a Bradley, or Artillery taking 4 direct 125mm shells until getting destroyed). 2. You can't pause the game, which is weird since it's a single player game. Which is a very poor design. 3. They did a nasty with separating factions into DLCs, I wouldn't buy the game if I knew so many factions are behind paywalls. Overall, I am enjoying the game and feel that it was worth the small amount of money I paid for it.

Buying on Sale with all the DLC is well worth it. For a cheaper older game this is fun for solo skirmish. The Workshop adds content to the game as well. For a slight twist try a solo skirmish game where your team outnumbers the enemy by 1; and just play 3rd/1st person as a hero ,using individual men or a vehicle- this way the major battle is of less concern than your own heroic actions. This is a good way to play. You can do the same in CTA GOH as well. It really is a completely different way to play both games.

Game has a lot of potential, unfortunately it never really got finished and I'm pretty sure it is now abandoned. I only recommend the game if you are going to play with the Warfighter mod. The mod changes loadouts and stats to be more realistic and also adds unit voice overs and sounds that make the game actually feel finished. It also works well with the campaigns, but disables achievements. I also highly recommend the independent ww2 spin off game Gates of Hell, made by different developers and I think the modding community from MOWAS. It is more polished and is a better game overall. It's a shame COA didn't really get the same love and attention as GOH did, because the modern setting really is a nice change from a genre that is almost exclusively ww2 focused.
