The story is great. If you want to play it on your Steam Deck, then you are probably better of with the original game. The remake works but sometimes the framerate is not so great.

The remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons offers a visually upgraded experience without altering the core gameplay or narrative elements that made the original memorable. While the gameplay remains unchanged from the original, the remake introduces the option to use a second controller for cooperative play. This feature can enhance the experience for those who wish to share the journey with a friend, reflecting the game's themes of teamwork in a more interactive way. Visually, the remake is a feast for the eyes. The environment design has been significantly enhanced, with improved lighting, models, better hair physics, and more detailed facial expressions. These upgrades breathe new life into the gameā€™s world, making it even more immersive and engaging. For newcomers to the game, this graphical overhaul provides a more polished and visually stunning experience, allowing them to fully appreciate the gameā€™s richly crafted environments. However, if youā€™re already familiar with the original or have a less powerful computer, the remakeā€™s enhancements might not be as critical. The original game still delivers the same emotional impact and narrative depth with a lighter system requirement, making it a viable option for those who prioritize performance over visuals.

Not sure why the reviews for this game is so low/mixed. I loved the game. I tried the OG game years ago, and never really got into it. I didn't like playing it on my own, with the controls and such, and it felt clunky IMO, so I never got far. This was a LOT of fun and emotional. I played it with a friend (we did both a way out and it takes two together), and we loved it. The art style is very pretty, and it's looking very updated to the OG.

I just completed my playthrough of Brothers, and I have to say: I really do think people have been a little too unfair on this one. The art style is indeed a little bit changed from the original vision, but I still believe it's close enough that you really understand and get the idea. The gameplay itself too is perfectly preserved - clearly the game logic is the same, and that's how it should be in my opinion. The game also does add co-op with multiple controllers. This is a little odd how for some reason one controller is one analogue stick, and the other is the other stick, and honestly I hope they fix this in a patch (you can also fix this with a bit of Steam input tweaking), but apart from that it plays solidly enough and is really enjoyable in a couch co-op setting. That's exactly how I enjoyed it this time. Is the game originally designed for that? No. Does it really matter? Not really. Just enjoy the game SP or co-op, whichever way you personally prefer. I really enjoyed Brothers, and I'm a big Josef Fares fan. It's honestly a breath of fresh air to play his games: they're full of quality narrative moments and atmosphere, and not about the typical collection of pickups or collectables that most modern games are about. If you enjoy this, make sure you also check out the mighty A Way Out, and the even more (almost perfect) It Takes Two. Enjoy!

If you have played this game before in its original state, I would not recommend buying this upgraded version. If you are brand new to this game, please buy this version. I played the original back when it came out and this remake still holds up the magic from the first. The game is beautiful, as well as the story. This game is still just as short as the original, not really adding much of anything "new" to the gameplay and story itself. Although the story is beautiful and moving, it didn't create as much emotional turmoil for my ( now third ) playthrough of the game. I purchased it for the nostalgia and beautiful graphics. Like my title suggests, if you are like me, save your money. If you are new to the game, please buy it as it will be worth your time. While this game is definitely playable by yourself, it does not come without its frustrations. The gameplay is fairly unique in that you are controlling each brother with a different joystick and trigger buttons for their actions. Some of the solutions aren't outright apparent, but for me personally it didn't take too long to figure out the puzzle. The game will definitely be easier when played with a friend, which I would recommend if you are not confident in your skills with difficult puzzle-like gameplay. As stated in some other reviews, if you are not adept at figuring out those puzzles it will become frustrating for you very quickly. The gameplay is very short. While Steam says I played for 4 hours, about 20-30 minutes of that was spent on a combination of chore break or snack break or phone call. I purchased this game on release day with it being on sale for $16; it has a regular price tag of $20. With the original version of the game being $20 as well, I think it is a fair price tag for the graphics upgrade it received. I also only managed to complete 7/14 of the achievements available on a "blind" playthrough. The rest of the missed achievements seem easy enough to go back and accomplish on another playthrough.
