The sober scifi setting is superb, and the audiobook only augments the bleak war story of the game. Gameplay is quite satisfying, its a toned down and feasible iteration of mech combat. Scratches that itch of well developed military scifi.

Brigador is an amazing game. It is NOT a Twinstick shooter or an Arcade game it is a "Tactical Shooter", the game is about managing your position, defeating the opposition in detail and conserving your ammo as you carry out your objectives and exit the stage. The game has great depth for those who are willing to dive in from how the weapons work to how enemies behave you are always given many opportunities to take the upperhand. You can distract large numbers of enemies by blowing buildings or idividual enemies in earshot by using your horn or shooting at them. Your success just depends on your ability to divide and conquer. Every weapon has their strenghts and weaknesses and every type of vehicle has risk to reward ratio depending on their weight class. Truly a game worth its full prise. It is a shame that this game got bad reviews because people are so one-track minded sometimes. Get this game play the hell out of it and use the Tank controls you cannot dodge bulllets in this game all day, if you are surrounded unless you are in heavy armor it will be over quick.

The best way I can review Brigador is that if anything from the trailers or the description sounds interesting to you, you can safely buy it. Because as a top-down isometric mission-based mech game, it has basically everything you want: Map variety, enemy variety, customization variety, a clean aesthetic, adjustable difficulty (via the pilots), a great soundtrack, and plenty of content to chew on. An easy recommendation.

I don't leave reviews for stuff very often, but for this I'll absolutely make an exception. I've been playing Brigador since 2020 when a certain Youtuber made a video on this absolute gem & have been playing it ever since. Originally got it in GOG before recently buying it again on steam to help support the devs. Brigador is a very special game to me. Everything from the gameplay, music, art style & setting just click. A deceivingly simple game with a ton of strategy & tactics where one bad decision can easily snowball & end your run. The game looks like it would be a simple arcadey twin stick shooter but its not, with the game requiring you to take very careful consideration of your environment, how to traverse it, and even the way your vehicle is positioned (the game features a directional damage system). Flanking is king and unless your driving a project mega death type vehicle, you should never engage most enemies head on. Especially large groups or swarms of enemies without some sort of cover or way to retreat from the situation. The soundtrack is also simply a masterpiece. "Makeup and Vanity Set" created an incredible Synthwave soundtrack that can range from being either "Badass & Bombastic" to "Haunting & Atmospheric". Every track fits the games mood flawlessly whether your taking on a NEP garrison with a Touro, sneaking about in a MOG suit, or mopping up the remnants of your latest space genocide. Art style lore wise Brigador also strikes a massive cord with me as I'm an absolute goober who's obsessed with retro future settings, the late Cold War era, and anything Military related. The vehicle designs are all fricking peak, the lore is way better than it has any right to be, and the city of Solo Nobre is crammed with so much love, attention to detail, and character that its almost a shame that its our job to destroy the damn place. I won't say Brigador is the "best game ever made", but its personally one of my all time favorite video games. If you haven't played it yet & like vehicle combat games then do yourself a favor & pick this one up. Also the sequel "Brigador Killers", is still in active development so give the devs your money so we can finally play it!!!

If you're interested in storming through cityscapes in a wide variety of different mechs to face off against an occupying force on an impressive scale, then buy it, hands down it delivers this in spades. Its beautiful, strategically interesting, and really fun to grind through - which is 90% of what you will be doing with this game. Complete a contract, acquire new pilots (difficulties), harder mechs, and harder challenges, and go in again. However, this game's lore broke me as a writer. I dipped my toes in the water with the excellent audio-book, read a lot of the in game lore, really intriguing stuff, excellent concept for a cyberpunk setting which really uplifts the game itself. One of my favorite bits of lore is just the yellow raincoats. Really effective world building. I ended up trying to dig deeper, which is when I found fucking MT Foxtrot from Cruelty Squad (an excellent game), very funny stuff. Then the blue skeleton, then fucking Johnny Five Aces, then the in universe TV series, and I found I couldn't make myself care more about the characters than the authors do, which turned out to be fairly little. Any character that seems interesting is just a difficulty tweak. Early on, I was interested in seeing what fanfics sprung from this wealth of ideas, now I know why its all just jokes and porn. I don't know if they can manage to resurrect my interest with Brigador Killers, but we'll see I suppose.
