Bosses are crazy difficult - but the challenge is fun too

edit: It has come to my attention that this game was not made by the same studio that did Bravely, Second, and Octopath, but by a studio that made a mobile game. No wonder it's so different. finished the game in Hard mode and quite a bit of grinding, trying to get all the cards of NPCs i find and do all the trials, etc., and am writing this right after beating the game Note that I played Bravely Default 1 and Bravely Second: End Layer. ---- Reasons I find the game meh: 1. The lighting is really weird. When I first booted the game I thought it looked terrible. Combined with the upped graphics, it just looked like odd clay dolls in an animation Youtube channel. Took me a while to get used to, but if you're used to how much more blended the first two games were, this will be a bit jarring 2. I don't mind grinding, it's part of Bravely, and it's fun. What I DON'T LIKE is taking off the ability to save Party Sets into Favourites. WHAT THE FUCK MAN? IT'S LITERALLY IN THE FIRST TWO GAMES, WHY REMOVE IT? Grinding in Bravely is actually kinda fun, but switching sets manually every time you want to go from a Grinding Mode to a Story Progression mode is NOT fun. 3. Not much challenge once you're in late game. There are these things called trials which you can optionally do in the late game, and they are brutally difficult at first. But once you start grinding some job levels, you end up gaining actual EXP as well, causing you to be overleveled fast, and nothing in the late game scales to that. You just destroy everything, and that's a bummer. Would've liked some challenges scaled to Lv99. 4. No settings option to control whether to receive EXP or not. Again, the first two games have this. WHY NOT THIS ONE???? Yes I hate the fact they're now items you gain in later chapters. 5. The main character's name is Seth. Can games stop fucking shoehorning "this is your self-insert, you can name them anything!" when we can't even change their appearance or gender? It ruins immersion when the game itself won't speak our character's name. Should've made it like BD1 and BSecond's Tiz and Yew. 6. There is literally no connection to the other two Bravely games. I expected some sort of thread tying the world back to Luxendarc, but no. This game can be called literally anything else and I wouldn't bat an eye. I know Square Enix likes to do this kind of shit where it's all different worlds, but I thought Bravely would be an exception. Oh well. ++++ Reasons to play the game: 1. Bravely Default had great music imo, but Bravely Second's was... okay. In particular, BSecond's character Ultimate theme songs were absolute horse radish, and none of them were memorable. Thankfully, BD2's character themes are much better, and I really liked the cute throwback one of the final songs gave. Then again, Bravely Second had an entirely different composer, so maybe having Revo back is why it's so good 2. It's a fun jrpg, I like the combat 3. It was pretty satisfying to complete 4. I liked the story ==== While my negatives are blown out of proportion, it doesn't stop the fact that the game's still pretty fun and I enjoyed it, go play it! but you'll be a bit disappointed if you liked the previous two Bravely games.

Beautiful visuals, great gameplay, a strong story, and a drop-dead GORGEOUS soundtrack - Square has done it again. For those uninitiated, this is the third entry in Square Enix's "Bravely" series. While that might deter some people due to name conundrums or the idea that they'd need to play the previous games first, don't let it! Bravely Defauult 2 is a standalone title in the franchise with a contained story. There are some similarities between it and its predecessors, but nothing stopping new players from jumping in or stopping old players from experiencing a new tale with familiar mechanics. If you're a fan of story-rich games, JRPGs, job/class/role systems, or killer soundtracks, this is a game you'll enjoy. There's only 1 downside to this title: - Please keep in mind you should have a console or PC capable of running this game. It might be intensive on older systems or have issues with framerate if your PC cannot keep up, but this can be worked around via the settings. (Or getting new hardware.) 10/10, would buy again.

BD2 stands out as one of the rare, nearly flawless games I've encountered in recent memory. While it isn't entirely free of imperfections, any flaws it possesses are minor and primarily subjective IMO. The combat system, for instance, has sparked debate since BD1, but many players enjoy it and find it unique (rather than detracting from the experience). Personally, I feel the main storyline presented a simple but engaging narrative from beginning to end, avoiding both excessive complexity and unsubstantiated fluff. Bonus points for making side quests and side characters very charming too. I also enjoyed the variety of options that the job/asterisk system offers (both mechanically and visually). On the topic of game systems, discovering hidden elements throughout the game was not only fun but fundamental to the game experience. One aspect I particularly appreciated was the unconventional difficulty curve. Unlike most RPGs, BD2 throws you right into the action with a higher than average initial challenge, which gradually lessens as you level up, refine your builds, and progress through the story. This translated the fantasy of gaining strength into a tangible gameplay experience, while avoiding handholding or making power levels trivialize content later in the game (spoiler: while you can reach that point, it doesn’t happen until VERY late) . Lastly, the multi-ending structure and end-game content, without being particularly challenging or conceptually flamboyant, are some of the best I've seen in the genre. Can’t go into specifics without entering spoiler territory, so I'll leave it at that. Without hesitation, I recommend BD2 not only to JRPG enthusiasts but also to any gamer who's dipped their toes into the genre before.

Best JRPG on steam. not as good as bravely 1 and end layer but still amazing. Job system and the boss fights are the best part of this game. plenty of hours of game to enjoy. not sure if it's worth full price but it regularly goes on sale for 50% off so I'd recommend buying then.
