Don't be deceived, this isn't your normal defense city builder, the protagonist is actually a necromancer. So many more of the mechanics make sense that way. Unavailable units that full heal after returning to base? Necromancy. Buildings regenerating at no cost at the end of the wave? Necromancy using the corpses of your foes as building material. No knowledge of spell casting or mediums but able to cast large scale offensive and defensive spells? You're a high level necromancer. You're just working for the king as a cover for your powers. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Onto the review of the game play, this is quite the unique game. The mechanics allow for interesting wave defense, sacrificing your production buildings as a form of defense as a possibility. I didn't do it that much on my runs but at higher difficulties it is another strategy to use. There's a strong emphasis on macro game play but micro does allow you to punch above your weight really well. The card system allows for runs to be unique, allowing you to pivot based on what cards happen to get synergies or buffs this run. There's some mention of difficulty spikes which is true but on normal if you full greed productions and transition to battle, there shouldn't be too many issues. The latter difficulties should be left after you finish the game on normal once, gaining a few skill points. It's the latter ones that get interesting, involving both macro and micro game play to get by. There's a lot of repeatability here with the various characters but I wouldn't say one is more viable than the other. I played through with the default character which is a bit weaker than the others but totally doable. They have interesting difference in play style. Overall, recommend the game and it's fun.

I am enjoying the game and I haven't found any bugs. I do think that the scaling can be more punishing than it currently is. I know you can change the difficulty but I'm not talking about that, each wave doesn't feel like its periodically getting harder to beat than the one before.

Much love, devs! I was already going to buy and be content based off the demo last year, but this exceeded my expectations. It's not that I recognize something new in the genre, but it's done well: like comfort food, but made by someone who really knows what they're doing. My wish is that you could do something in support of these old eyes. It's a nice enough font, but too small and I have to guess at what the text says sometimes.
