This is a light, fun game with a lot of meta-progression. You can die pretty fast, but you don't have a lot of input beyond making good item/unit choices and running away. The result is a game that's occasionally intense, but not cerebral. I think most people would enjoy this, although it will quickly become a once-a-month kind of game.

It's well made but the graphical style, even with the accessibility options, is impossible for me to enjoy. Every run just ends up a completely impossible to understand mess of purple. Worth it to support the dev but unfortunately not for me.

One of the better survivorlike games out there in my opinion, and I've played about 20 of those so far. I'd put it at top3 below Halls of Torment and Vampire Survivors. The unique spin here is that you don't get weapons as you progress, but instead you create an army of undead minions, upgrade them, combine them to create stronger minions and so on. Your army is fighting for you, healing you, casting status effects on the enemies and the like. If you enjoy survivorlike games you will probably enjoy this one, unless you really don't want the "minions are doing everything" type of gameplay.

Allegedly, one of the only vampire survivor clones to actually innovate on the formula. I can't speak to that - this is the only other game in that style I've played but having attacks come from little skelly minions rather than your one character loaded to the gills with six different projectile weapons is a logical change that felt great to play. Did the game have to constantly call them "boners" though? Lol.

So…Boneraiser Minions. I’ve completed many runs, both in the Mausoleum mode (in the various camps) and in Castle Conquest; have played plenty rounds of Clashful Cards; and have played around with the Skirmishes as well. This is one of the slower paced entries in the auto battler/enemy hell genre, with some unique mechanics. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3116395111 First off, you have a hub area where you can buy character class upgrades, switch character classes, buy outfits and cards, switch tunes on the jukebox, attune abilities, and so on. You can also buy challenge upgrades, offering greater challenges on your runs (and greater rewards). The jukebox offers a variety of chip tunes as you unlock them. The graphics are consistent with this theme as well. A darker pallette, but surprisingly detailed and evocative. You play as some variation of a necromancer, fighting against the King and his unified forces (in Mausoleum mode) and the Queens with her allies and forces (in Castle Conquest mode). For each, you’ll battle through increasingly difficult and varied waves of enemies. You’ll start with a few minions who do all the fighting for you as you run around. As you kill enemies and gather their bones, you’ll have the opportunity to select new minions to raise or raise the level of an existing one or or change a normal minion into a giant one, and so on, thus swelling your ranks and your power. You’ll also gather coins and gems, which are functionally your hub and pre-run currency, allowing you to buy the things mentioned previously, as well as some relics and scrolls to begin a run. You’ll also earn hero souls by defeating…heroes…which is the character class upgrade currency and can also be used to buy extra pre-run minions AND can also be exchanged for coins. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3115047363 Anyway, as you fight through the rank and file, bosses will begin to appear. This is where fights really get challenging. The arena you fight in, is small enough to make these a real challenge. Eventually, you’ll fight your way to the King (or Queen). In Mausoleum mode, you just fight through wave after wave of enemies. In Castle Conquest, you fight through a limited amount of waves, then travel to the next area, rinse and repeat until you make your way to the Queen herself. Relics provide special abilities, buffs, and curses that will last a run. Scrolls are single use spells. Generally large AoE attacks or significant buffs. You can carry as many relics as you find. Scrolls OTOH, you have limited storage slots for, and the game will bump your oldest for the newest finds if you’re not using them. The arena itself will also have some obstacles, as well as slowly regenerating things you can purchase and place pre-run, such as healing plants, coffins that might hold extra minions, contact bombs, etc.. There are two health meters: red hearts and purple hearts. Red is your standard body health. Purple is your occult health. It seems like occult health helps absorb damage that could permanently affect your body health during a run, and is drained first, but I can’t say I actually fully understand this system. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3115047804 The Clashful Cards is a fun little game utilizing cards you can buy or earn during runs. It’s kind of a bit of card Chess meets War and is a pleasant bit of side content. This game is fully Steam Deck compatible and you’ll get close to four hours of battery life playing it. I actually haven’t even covered all the things you can do and see in this game. Boneraiser Minions has a shockingly large amount of content for an incredibly low price of entry. This one is an easy recommendation. If you found this review helpful and would be interested in supporting my Curator group, Robilar's Reviews, it would be appreciated.
