Punched out the main story on hard in just over an hour. I'm not normally a fan of twin-stick shooters OR bullet hells but Bleed 2 just does everything right that really gets the adrenaline going. Combine its turbo-paced gameplay and, by far, one of THE best soundtracks to ever grace my ears and you've got a total banger of a game. 10/10, would save the world from a psychonetic robot slinging maniac again.

Just like Bleed 1, the game is intended to be played on max difficulty. I came to this conclusion because it took me exactly 2 hours to finish them both. So it's a refund barrier of sorts. (Yes, I know that Steam's refund policy isn't as strict as people think. Also I don't refund games that I liked, no matter their length) I assume that if you play on anything below, you'll finish the game before the end of your lunch break. I don't remember buying both games, but when I decided to play them in 2020, I randomly selected "Very Hard". And even after 4 years since I played them, I don't regret it. Bleed 1 on VH was a breeze, while Bleed 2 is actually pretty easy, except... the last boss. (wow. I still remember it. lol.) Super Meat Boy has the exact same problem! I completed the whole game in a few hours, but it took me ages to finish the last level, hahahah!

kind of unfortunate that enemies only have one hit point - you can take out most of them before they can even attack by shooting blindly toward the edge of the screen, and if you try to reflect shots towards the enemies, your own attack will hit them before the reflected attack

Sometimes, what you want is a deep and emotional indie game, with a gut wrenching story and an immersive atmosphere, so it can draw you in, expand your notions of what a video game can be, and make you reflect about life and the nature of reality. Other times, however, all you really want is some dumb, epic, high octane fun. If you're looking for the former, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for the latter, Bleed 2 fits the bill perfectly. I originally got this game as part of an itch bundle a long time ago, and only opened its Steam page to see what people were saying about it. It made me kind of sad to see it only had about 400 reviews 'cause, without mincing words, Bleed 2 is F**KING AWESOME and deserves a lot more recognition. After seeing that small review count, I HAD to buy it again just so I could give it a review of my own. Bleed 2 has the energy of all those ridiculously over-the-top action cartoons and anime from the 80s and 90s, and I'm here for it. Levels vary wildly between hopping on car roofs in a busy highway while shooting hoverbike baddies, having a duel against a freaking Ninja on top of an airplane, platforming on moving missiles while being shot at by a bazooka wielding weirdo, a zero-gravity duel against a menacing robot guardian, and a final duel involving rocket launchers, katanas and infinite-ammo pistols. The pacing stays up throughout the entire thing, and it is all accompanied by this AMAZING electro-speed-metal soundtrack that really keeps the blood pumping and me wanting more. I added the soundtrack to this game to my gym playlist on Spotify, best decision ever. The player character is a girl called Wryn, who is like all the most badass action heroes from movies and cartoons had a baby. She wields infinite ammo pistols, a freaking katana that can deflect bullets, and this crazy pair of boots that allow her to effortlessly zip around in the air. Oh, did I mention she can also slow down the flow of time? Yeah! Anyway, one day, Wryn's just chilling in her home playing videogames, when duty abruptly calls her: shots are being fired, everyone is panicking, aliens are invading, things are exploding, and stuff is getting intense. That's when Wryn jumps right into action, starts killing all kinds of crazy foes, and only stops when she finishes the job. The story has this clearly tongue-in-cheek tone that makes the most of its absurd setting, making it hilarious, fun, and even a bit endearing at times. Now, none of the above really matters if the game doesn't play well, right? Well, luckily, it does play well! The controls are fluid and responsive, the level design is fun and fast-paced, the bosses are challenging and varied, and the pacing never, never, NEVER slows down. Wryn is clearly the kind of girl that is only ever gonna stop when she's dead, and that ain't happening anytime soon. I played the entire thing on Very Hard in my very first playthrough, because it's well worth it. While the levels and bosses are definitely challenging, the game is really generous with checkpoints, so you can keep trying stuff until you win, making it way more worthwhile to play on the hardest setting right from the get-go. I wish more hard games were like that, just letting you continue from the boss fight you lost, instead of forcing you to go through the entire stage again. If I were to make a complaint, it's that the game is really short. Sure, there's some extra characters to unlock, some varied weapons to try out, and even a freaking roguelike mode, which do add some replay value, but at the end of the day, I just wish the game had more story levels. All in all, though, definitely a badass masterpiece. Get this if you want some AWESOME action platforming to keep you company in these cold/hot (depending on your hemisphere) months.
