I've thought long and hard on what to say about this game. Its not a BAD soulslike, or a BAD adventure game, or a BAD action game, Its extremely ambitious and some of it is brilliant on paper. The end result however is a subpar game but an extremely unique experience. Let me explain. Bleak Faith recently got an extensive overhaul that fixed alot of issues the game had on release. I bought the game recently for $5 so i can't say if the game is better or worse than it was before. What i can say, regardless of when you play it, this is a VERY VERY indie soulslike. The combat is stiff and borderline frustrating on certain bosses and enemies. The map design is like going out of bounds and exploring unfinished assets. Weapons feel decent with good feedback but fail to really capture any form of weight or strength. Bosses are interesting and some thought was put into them, but the inconsistent hitboxes and some questionable attacks make fighting some of them extremely annoying. The music is halfway decent but i bet i can find a few tracks on a royalty free website's "epic songs" page. Despite all of this, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The amount of effort to make a soulslike unlike others while being familiar is 100% felt here. The gameplay is good enough, the music is good enough, the map design is good enough. The game is GOOD ENOUGH to warrant its price. The ideas here are extremely ambitious specifically for a Double A studio. Climb on the back of monsters, swim deep in monster infested oceans, ascend monolithic towers, ride on the back of serpents, cast a tornado to shred enemies, build a character to fit your playstyle. Its A LOT and the end result could have been A LOT worse. Im not going to say the game is a hidden gem that you NEED to play, but if your looking for something different in the genre, i recommend it. $30? Ehhhhh..... $20? Sure why not. $5? 100% a buy.

3 dudes made this on a budget and its incredible. The atmosphere, level design, music, build variety are all done extremely well. I could only imagine what this game could be if they had the money to really go all out.

This game is special, in a very good way ;) No real soulslike, more an action RPG with difficult Bossfights (Oneshot Mechanics, spongy Boss HP, massive optical clutter on screen so you can see nothing at all---I look at you Big-Bad-Samurai-Whirlwind :P ). Great variety of weapons, perk combinations (with limited respec options), attributes (with near unlimited respecability-farming needed)), different gems in your items, three armortypes (light, medium, heavy--but all in the same category got the same defense values), some unique armorpieces with different enchants on them....you see, there is lot to explore character wise. But man o man the artstyle, environments, sounds, music, enemys and scaling magnificent. The Story is vague, but intriguing. Pathing...phew sometimes I felt a bit like out of bounce to reach some loot, but once you get the grip to fumble in every corner of each level, it's really fun and rewarding. The controlls (i play with ps5 controller) are nice, jumping is a bit floaty, but nothing to complain about. Keep in mind this is a small Dev Team, consiting of three guys. What they deliver here is just hard to describe (anxiety inducing underwater passages and heights are a constant fearfactor for me xD), they have put this weird steampunky-industrial-medieval/postapocalyptic-vibe really well together. I dont know what else to say, it is a great game for everyone, who likes action RPGs and are open for the griddy atmosphere. Definitely worth buying and a big surprise for me this year.

Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a strikingly original and immersive adventure that stands out in the crowded field of Souls-likes. From the moment you step into its dark, violent, and unexplored landscape, you are drawn into an intense journey. The originality of the game's universe is immediately apparent. It's captivating and mesmerizing, offering a lot of tension and a great sense of exploration. The world of Bleak Faith: Forsaken evokes the dystopian and twisted essence of Tsutomu Nihei's masterpiece "BLAME!". This influence is evident in the game's architectural design and atmosphere, which convey a sense of endless, enigmatic structures filled with hidden dangers. Beyond its setup and great art direction, the interconnectivity of the level design is very rewarding, creating a cohesive world where every path leads to new discoveries. The depth of the narrative is another strong point. The story unfolds gradually; it’s a minimalist narrative that doesn’t tell a linear story but invites you to piece it together through deduction, exploration, dialogue, and environmental storytelling, which greatly enhances the immersion. Archangel Studios provides constant support for their game with impressive updates. However, there is still room for improvement: at times, the camera doesn't keep up during boss fights. The controls are a bit slippery, and combat feels a bit floaty. I also find that we experience some friction with the environment, especially in narrow spaces, where our character could instead slide against surfaces and continue moving smoothly. Well worth the dive, Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a gigantic achievement by a very small team. A great game indeed! I'm very much looking forward to what comes next! I hope Archangel Studios will carry on with their vision. Kudos! /!\ Bleak Faith: Forsaken is playable on Steam Deck and has controller support <3. i understand this game launched in a bad state and has gone through a lot of changes since release but in its current state i enjoyed it a lot. hitboxes and animations are probably what's the most jank in my opinion (though they tend to err on the generous side), so if you're mainly looking for a polished soulslike combat experience maybe pass on this one. however where the game shines are its environments and the sense of discovery they deliver. if "dark souls but it's set in The Megastructure" entices you i highly recommend Bleak Faith, the levels capture the feel of a sprawling structure really well, both in its architecture and the interconnectedness of the world, and the fantastically ominous ambient soundtrack really adds to this. in true soulsborne fashion the story is cryptic and told in sparsely distributed fragments, but now after my first playthrough i do have a gist of what's going on though there are still things left to find all in all gud gam thank you devs :3
