This series is a gem, I thought the first was a solid remake and nod to Blaster Master for NES, but as I played through the series it's clearly it's own story in the Blaster Master Universe that ties in some existing threads to make the story very interesting. I'm writing this review to inform people that if they had enjoyed the series like I have, to support this game and the creators. There would be a 4th installment if the demand is there but for many indie series if there is a time that goes to long it gets left alone. That being said, this is a great "Tie-off" to the series. It seems like the devs love the Blaster Master Universe and didn't want to rush things with this one, very great job! Would love to see a BMZ4 but the series is a fantastic trinity as it stands!

A fantastic finale to a perfect trilogy. Blaster Master Zero is a case study of how a series reboot should be done, it pays perfect homage to the source material while introducing tons of new and unique ideas that improve and evolve the series further without hurting its identity. If you love retro games, 2d games or action platformers at all you have no excuse not to play these amazing games.

first thing's first: play the first two BMZ games before this one. obviously, there's continuing plot beats, but it contains pretty clear spoilers of the "true endings" of both of them very early on. with that said... this one is easily my favourite of the trilogy. the gameplay is slick as ever, getting better as you go, the characters are amazing, the story kept me hooked, and while i didn't mention it in my previous reviews, hot damn the songs throughout this series are stellar, with one of my objective favourites coming from this one. play all the way through to the true ending, you will not regret it.

What a wonderful game to end this story on! A bump in difficulty from the last two games and gives you a real challenge as the game goes on. Bring your blaster master skills for this one!

You should go into this one fresh from playing 2 or it's going to be clunky and technical and you're going to have a bad time. BMZ3 is a solid continuation of the series, but it continues to be designed around NES style constraints and thus the map is a little hard to use and important game elements aren't always explained perfectly. For example, there's a point pretty early on where you have to wall slide the sophia to get through a gap in order to proceed, and it's very easy to not realize this is intended. It's not a big deal if you're fresh from 2, but if you're rusty BMZ3 does not hold your hand especially tightly. That all said, you do keep a lot of your powerups from 2, and the gameplay does build on 2's foundations, and the plot goes in a compelling direction. I'll update as I make more progress, but at present I feel pretty confident saying you'll like this if you liked 1 and 2---probably don't start with this one, though. There's a recap, but the story is better experienced in order.
