So, in a strange twist of fate, this game is actually kind of fun. I love Berserk more than most of my family members, and hate Dynasty Warriors about as much as I hate those same family members. "Dynasty Warriors, but Berserk" sounds like it would not be my thing at all but the animations and swings of most characters are a lot more weighty/purposeful than most DW games usually are and make the game feel a lot less mindless. Being able to play as so many different characters was an unexpected little surprise and to see they all have their own custom movesets, special abilities, and overall playstyles is a level of effort I was not expecting. The graphics are surprisingly great, the endless / free modes have way more detail than you'd expect and are genuinely pretty fun, and the game doesn't really have any crashing or major stutters. The only real weak point for me is that they just use the early 2010s movies as the "cutscenes" for this game, and I'm already not the biggest fan of these movies to begin with if I'm being honest. They serve their purpose, they move the storyline, but it's kind of a shame/wasted potential because the visuals Koei made here are genuinely kinda gorgeous at times and the cutscenes they *did* make look fantastic, making you wish the whole game had cutscenes crafted with in-engine graphics. I'd be lying if I said this is still my ideal Berserk game (a furi/SOTC boss rush style game during black swordsmen era Guts where he's going around stomping apostles still has yet to be delivered unto us), but it's by no means bad or even mediocre. It's at least good, and maybe even great depending on your tolerance for this formula.
If you’re stepping into Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, just know this isn’t some casual hack and slash you play and forget… this is you carrying the weight of Guts’ rage on your shoulders. From the moment you pick up the Dragon Slayer, the game throws you straight into that brutal Berserk atmosphere war, betrayal, blood, and that constant feeling that the world is completely against you. And somehow, you’re still pushing forward. That’s the real magic here. It feels like Berserk. Yeah, it follows the musou formula huge waves of enemies, repeating objectives but when you’re cutting through hundreds of soldiers like they’re nothing, it doesn’t feel repetitive… it feels personal. Every swing is heavy. Every hit feels like it matters. You’re not just clearing mobs you’re unleashing pure anger. The story mode actually does a solid job covering the major arcs, especially if you’re a fan. Seeing those moments play out, even in this format, still hits. There’s something about reliving that journey that reminds you why Berserk is on a different level compared to most stories out there. Of course, it’s not perfect. Some missions drag, and if you’re not into musou games, you might feel the repetition creeping in. But honestly? This game wasn’t made to be perfect it was made for fans who wanted to be Guts, even for a little while. And when everything clicks when the music hits, enemies swarm you, and you’re just standing there surrounded, swinging a sword bigger than your future it just feels right. Not just a game… it’s a power fantasy soaked in blood and struggle. If you know, you know.
no one seems to understand what a musou game is, of course it is repetitive, but that's the point, get the highest kill count you can get, which I think is great for a Berserk game, I can't think about any other genre for a game about Guts and his power (no, a soulslike game wouldn't work) so I recommend to watch a few gameplays before getting it, and if you're a Berserk fan, I 100% recommend to get it, even at full price
