Very cute, decently relaxing, and enough variety to keep you interested if you're into this sort of game. My only complaint is that the building mechanism is really difficult as your buildings get larger. For the love of everything fuzzy and adorable, let me zoom where I want to zoom rather than on a fixed center.

Over all, this is a super cute game that has some good core mechanics. But, it isn't fleshed out enough and is left feeling clunky, especially as you gain more and more properties. Best way I can describe it is if you were forever stuck in the early game of Stardew Valley or something, where nothing is upgraded and it takes forever to do most things. For example, in Stardew: Spring 1 I can barely make it to the mines because there are a lot of things to do and I have to water each plant one at a time. But by Spring 2, I've upgraded stuff so I can explore other places. That's pretty standard for most games, but Bear and Breakfast one kinda misses that. You think you get QoL when you unlock the friends to help you, but they are pretty cost prohibitive and so you just end up abandoning the expensive properties that require a lot of your time (looking at you Ski Cabins and the Captain's Mansion) so that you can advance the game. I did play to the end game though, because if you do just abandon the ones that require cooking/heating upkeep, the game becomes more manageable. And I enjoyed it! Just the completionist/perfectionist in me would love it if I could have all properties going at once. Oh, and playing with a controller is a nightmare. Just don't do it, trust me lol.

Really cute visuals and story’s deceptively light-hearted when it’s actually dark (not a bad thing). Gets a bit grindy mid to late game, especially when you unlock cooking and have to forage for ingredients. Still tolerable tho. You get to play as a bear 🐻🔥💯

Fun! It's meant to be chill, so - honest advice here: try not to dive in with a speed runner's mindset. In my opinion, Bear and Breakfast is best played with a laid back vibe where you slow yourself down. The game lets you explore and collect, and you'll find some items miles ahead of when you'll actually need them to progress the story. There are no timed events, so there's zero reason to rush ahead and do all the things. Different areas around the map are locked to story and resort progress, anyway, which can make it feel punishing if you try to race ahead to the next thing. Kinda like running face first into a door. I completed the game in 56 hours. Loved almost every minute of it. The art style is sweet and suits it very well. The music is great. The characters are quirky and fun. The controls are easy to use (keyboard/mouse). For the players who have a TL;DR mentality and hit space to speed through conversation: One of the most asked questions I see is "How do I rotate furniture?" It's one of the first tips given when setting up your first resort (press the R button). I recommend turning on tips for new players (or players like me with the memory of a goldfish). They're well written and help explain new features as you unlock them. All in all, chill with Hank's amusing ignorance of the world and vibe to the music while you build up your cozy Bear and Breakfast empire.

Pros: - The plot is interesting. The way the game starts feels very silly (in a good way), and the individual NPC storylines are the real draw. - The quest progression feels very natural and it feels GOOD completing them. (However, I do also just very enjoy getting achievements.) - The gameplay is very addicting. I feel like I'm constantly changing layouts and rearranging furniture, it's GREAT!! Additionally, crafting and collecting is also really good, though I never feel like I have enough ingredients for cooking. - The day night cycle doesn't really matter outside of aesthetic purposes. You CAN sleep if you want to, but it's not necessary and there's no penalty for not doing so. It's very useful for figuring out where you need to put some lights down though. - The art style is unique and very cute! - There's LORE and SECRETS Cons: - Room ranks (specifically decoration) is VERY unbalanced. You can work as hard as you want to upgrade all your decorations, but if it happens to be next to a kitchen or a utility room (or god forbid BOTH) it TANKS your scores. Granted, this can be very easily ignored (especially if all other rooms scores are high), but it's just very frustrating. - You also can't sell items, but this is negligible because of how quickly collectibles respawn and money accumulates. - Late game is mostly just waiting for more money to come in and waiting for wood to respawn for the chance to get mahogany (if you particularly care about upgrading all of your furniture). I know some other reviews talk about bugs, but I haven't had any problems yet - knock on wood. Definitely worth getting during a sale or if you're on the verge of another binge of The Sims. 4/5 stars
