I'm unsure where all the hate for this game comes from, The humor is set out to be exactly what the devs intended and I enjoyed it. Really enjoyed the scooter missions and the space missions. base combat is pretty good and gives a good difficulty

Really fun. Has some crazy range of gameplay types. Core is the OG beat-em-up that does get as difficult as the originals. Would love to see an entire tv show done in the style of the cinematics.

I went into the Battletoads reboot expecting an easy target—a quick playthrough, a few jokes about the art style, and done. But the more I played, the more I felt that this game didn’t deserve the reputation it had. The beat 'em up sections are an absolute blast, the art style is vibrant and fun, and the music is spot-on. The writing is generally solid—though when it’s bad, it's really bad. But those moments are the exception, not the rule. I ended up genuinely enjoying it, and it’s a shame that the game didn’t get a fairer shake. It’s got a lot to offer, and I’d totally recommend giving it a shot if you have the chance. It’s unfortunate that a sequel doesn’t seem likely because I’d love to see what they could do with a follow-up.

Truly a mixed bag. Its been awhile since we last saw the toads in action, and this game unapologetically reminds you of that quite frequently. We've all missed them, the quirky & cool characters, the absolutely rockin music, and the ball-busting difficulty we've come to know and love of the toads. And while Dlala Studios rendition of the Battletoads tries its hardest to incorporate the best of what the toads have always had to offer, it tends to do so in an...overabundance...to the point of exhaustion. There's a lot going on here in Battletoads 2020, some good, some bad, and some just annoying af. Want the toads in their classic beat em up fashion? You got it. What about as a platformer? Sure! Would you like some puzzles in that? Uh...o-okay. What about a shoot em up!? I-I mean I guess that alri... WE GOT MINI GAMES TOO! I'm not really that into thos...AND INTERACTIVE CUT-SCENES!!! S-STOP IT!!! This is kind of the experience one has when throwing on Battletoads 2020 for the first time. Its a game with quite a few positives, such as beautiful animation, gorgeous colors, and a rockin soundtrack. And had this been a 2 hour animated special, then Battletoads 2020 (aside from its...less than favorable character designs) would have been just fine. But this is not a cartoon, its a GAME, and a games bread in butter lie in the gameplay, to which Battletoads 2020 falls a bit short. Don't get me wrong, this games got variety, perhaps TOO MUCH variety. Battletoads 2020 will have you sampling several different genres while you are on your adventure, none of which are particularly fleshed out or interesting. You'll go from beat em up, to platformer, to puzzles, to puzzle platforming, to mini games, to interactive cut-scenes, and even shoot em ups, all of which function and aren't offensive per-say...but tend to overstay their welcome or outright break up any semblance of a flow. There is no rhythm to catch in Battletoads 2020 because it has none, it just tosses a bunch of shit your way and hopes you like it. And while that can certainly be seen as admirable, it more so comes off as a lack of faith in the sustainability of the games core mechanics. Battletoads 2020 feels like it gives you a lot of different things to do because it doesn't think any of the things it does are fun or interesting enough to sustain the players interest for more than a few minutes. This in my opinion is what hurts Battletoads 2020 the most. Had it took its time and stuck to mastering 1 or 2 genres for the toads return it could have fleshed out the battle mechanics further, add more variety to the combat and platforming, and cleaned up the cumbersome and over-engineered control scheme. Instead, Battletoads 2020 chooses to do all, and masters none, leading to a more chaotic yet less fun experience. That being said, I don't think Battletoads 2020 is a bad game. Its got an identity crisis and a lack of depth in its combat that stop it from being as good as it wants to be. But it also has a few highlights that make it stand out just enough for you to pay it a visit if you are a big enough toad fan. Just be aware this is not the Battletoads you remember, either in gameplay or style. And if you can accept all that along with its oddball new sense of humor, you might find some enjoyment here. Id wait for a discount though.

I mean this game is fine. I enjoyed the soundtrack and was able to get some laughs from its humor every now and then. The gameplay, for me, often boiled down to either button mashing or move spamming. I appreciate its completely 2D art style because i'm just a sucker for that sort of thing. As I'm sure you can see from my own play time, it is a fairly short game. I remember finishing it and thinking "that's it?" I recommend it just because I don't think it was bad enough for me not to but it is easily one of the most meh games I've played. If you're really curious to try it out, at least wait until it goes on sale
