easy to learn .... a good game with a reasonable amount of tactics .... from a strategic level though, it's lacking.

If youre a big fan of BSG especially Ronald D Moore's BSG Reboot and also loves strategy game in space, I would 10/10 recommend this. It has good replayability and you can get your money's worth out of it. Operation Anabis is probably the hardest game mode I ever played, but I enjoyed every frustrations and small victories from my gameplay. I got to a point of 1 Jump away to winning, but I only had 3 civilian transports and an Atlas because I lost 2 Battlestars in my last engagement, so basically what I did, is I sacrificed all 3 of my civilian transport as bait to be targeted by raiders and missiles away from my atlas, while my atlast flies far away with enough armor and turns to jump, which eventually I ended up winning, with the Atlas. 9k souls lost throughout the gameplay to save less than 1k. Really, I recommend this. :)

This is interesting and fun game for space battles, although it falls short due to the lack of a proper UI implementation so expect to spend most of the time in battles wasting it due to the lack of any implementation of mouse-friendly actions.

This is game is a MUST for fans of the old BSG, "new" BSG, and those that like the spin-off movies such as Blood & Chrome, which the Ghost Fleet Offensive DLC campaign is based on. I'm not going to leave an expansive review as I'm still currently going through the main campaign first time around on PC after doing it only so far on console, but it's best on PC for the better experience and shorter turn loading times. This review is for the base game and it's main campaign. I have yet to try any of the DLC expansion campaigns though they are on my to do list. Positives: > Turn based strategy means you can plan you movement and attacks accordingly with some decent level of depth. You also have the element of the unknown as you have to predict what the enemy might do, though the game's AI is fairly basic so don't expect any high level plays. > Ships for both sides are lore/canon accurate and the ones made specifically for this game feel and look like they could fit right into the show. Also the inclusion of some original series BSG ships redesigned to fit with the "new" BSG series ship designs works so damn well. > Viewing a replay is like watching something from the series, with zooming in camera shots, Viper side-views as they intercept fighters or go in for attack runs. > The music! It's clearly inspired by Bear McCreary's soundtrack and is great to listen to as most tracks have 2 stages, a menacing lull as you plan your turn, then a main hard hitting march as you see it in action. 10 out of 10 for the music alone. > You can rename your ships, fleets, and officers in the campaign with them showing up on the sides of the ships themselves. > Multiplayer is fun in a way but could have been a tad better with a spectator player option as the game would be perfect for some light-eSport action between friends and/or streamers. Negatives: > Odd Cylon AI behaviour, ironically! I have noticed if the mission in the campaign isn't a main one, the Cylon ships will often flee from battle, moving incredibly fast (faster than some very fast smaller colonial ships) to the very edges of the map making you haul your entire fleet and what few vipers you have left to catch up to them. Has happened pretty much 90% of the time. > The Cylon virus seems near impossible to stop at times, even with Raptors boosting your ship's firewall, that's if they're not intercepted by Raiders first. Plus the smallest most standard Cylon ship has access to it. > Cylon fleets just magically spawning seemingly out of nowhere on the campaign map. I've lost count how many times I've wasted a large Cylon fleet only for one to spawn right next to my 2nd fleet and outnumber and outgun it. You can autoresolve battles but there's a likely chance of the game stating a 70% chance of victory only to lose entirely. Saved scummed a few times when this happened and just retreated. > The campaign is heavily stacked against you. Not sure what the problem is with the 12 Colonies but if apparently being wiped out isn't on top of their priorities list then it's bitching your fleet isn't in orbit so therefor no funding for you! You really need to get a 2nd fleet out asap, spearheaded by the early game Minerva Battlestar, get them out when you can afford them. Overall: I'd give this a "sometimes you gotta roll a hard 6" out of a D8. Suits those looking for a turn-based starship game, someone who loves the old and newer BSG series, and those who are just looking for some games related to TV shows. The game runs smoothly and not had any sort of hard crash but the Cylon AI could use a little more tweaking from my experience, or shrink the map sizes as nothing is worse than spending 10 minutes boosting engine power to most of your ships to leg it across the map to attack a random Cylon ship that's decided to go on a sight seeing tour.
