Its not bad, but not great either. I'm sure others will compare it to Roboquest but design/feel-wise its honestly a lot closer to Deadlink. (though I think I had more fun in that one) Overall the game is kind of unremarkable in its genre. I'll give some positive and negative quick-fire reasons why. -Some of the guns feel pretty good while others feel terrible and desperately need buffs to range/damage. -With so many abilities and weapons hidden behind unlock currency, your choices feel pretty limited. -"meemo" your little companion/tutorial guy is cute, but literally never shuts up. Seeing as there is no voice acting, this means you constantly have text boxes on your screen of him yapping, the bosses for that zone do the same thing. -on that note, the writing is super PG/family friendly. to the point it feels like its directed at little kids. (main character literally says "oh HACK" as an example..) -the different zones or "towers" you go through have a lot of detail put into them. The level design is solid, but after your 4th or 5th run, theres almost nothing new to see. Despite all of this, it is pretty fun. Combos with low health enemies and the elemental explosions are fun, the different suits you can wear help keep things interesting. I just wish there was less of a focus on grind and the weapons/abilities were balanced better. I feel like this one barely did enough for me to recommend it. 6/10 Play if you're REALLY craving an FPS roguelike and youve exhausted other options

This game has really good promise, similar to how Roboquest was when it first released into early access about four years ago. People like to compare it to the current version of Roboquest, after four years of development. I can see why, both games are very similar. Though I don't think the comparison is quite fair as this game JUST saw its release. I feel like people are forgetting where Roboquest, even Hellfire Reborn, began -- a really good concept and solid shooter with a lack in both content and roguelike elements. Over time both those games grew to be even better than when they launched and I'm sure this game will follow that trend. This game is a really good concept that feels like a fun Megaman FPS. Sure there are improvements they could make today that would immediately make this game better, movement particularly. This game will do even better after its inevitable updates, and I am excited to see what they come up with.

Didn't play much yet but very cool game so far. If you really liked Roboquest, you'll probably really like this. It's very similar, but has a slightly different flow to combat whereas Roboquest felt more like non-stop go go go all the time, and this is a bit more methodical. So far the guns, abilities and upgrades are all pretty good. Starting to like this "modern" trend of roguelites just giving positive options. Combat: Solid. You do have to juke a lot as enemies predict all the time. The takedown system feels satisfying and works a bit like DOOM, but also has its own quirks and doesn't interrupt the gameplay flow too much. Imagine DOOM, but it's a slo-mo instead and you can direct where you're going to slam the enemy, since there are perks to slamming enemies into others, or walls. Roguelite: Very very similar to Roboquest. You find upgrades, find currency, when you die you spend and get stronger. Weapons: Cool so far. Some I'd probably never use unless absolutely necessary, but more guns I like than ones I don't. You can play with unwanted loot pretty early on, and it's not just to loot or sell. You can transfer perks from weapons to one of yours. You can also do that with "grenades." It's quite a nice system. The mid-run/boss shop's alright, nothing crazy. Hopefully there are upgrades to unlock a stronger shop. Bonus: It even has some Megaman nostalgia, in a sense. I just wish it had a little tune for when the robot flexes. Overall, it's a great game!

Battle Shapers is a singleplayer roguelite first-person-shooter. TLDR: I have enjoyed the majority of my time with the game, but now at the cusp of 20 hours it has become somewhat boring. I recommend picking it up on Sale if you are interested. Two of my biggest complaints are around Performance and Gun/Ability Variety, which are being addressed in the upcoming 1.0 release. Two complaints that appear to be unaddressed in the 1.0 release are Time Commitment and Map Variety. Full runs can run up to approximately 2 hours and feels bad, especially when you see the same Maps, Rooms, Puzzles, and Challenges on repeat. Aesthetically, it feels like Megaman in an abandoned post-human city. It's a beautiful game, the characters, enemies and bosses are well designed. However, there appears to be no variation to the Rooms and Puzzles you encounter, you will see the same things over time. Same for the enemy types. Performance, I struggle to play on anything but Low with an Nvidia RTX 3060. Even on Low, when the number of enemies increase the frames drop and the particle effects are noisy. Version 1.0 is dropping after this review and they've stated improvements are coming. Base Mechanics. Movement and shooting feel good, snappy and responsive. You have a big ass arm that can punch enemies into terrain and each other, in addition to modifications you get from the Shaper Cores, which is satisfying. You also have 3 elemental weapon/ability types to play with, Fire, Shock and Vibration, which have basic effects and additional at max stacks. They're fun to play with, but hard to specifically dive into outside of the random rewards that you obtain. In the 1.0 version, they're introducing a mechanic to suppress/encourage specific weapons and abilities to appear in runs. Roguelite Mechanics. Meta-progression is a Grind. Both to unlock weapons and abilities, but also gain access to the Shaper Cores that really change your playstyle. Additionally, full runs can take up to 2 hours or more. You will fight each boss and liberate their respective towers before facing the final boss, and there have been multiple times where I need to pause or take a break. My advice for the developers would be to cut the run time.
