Game looks simple and cartoonish but it is a very good Tactical war game.

If you played the great Steel Panthers back in the day, then you'll know what I say when I tell you Battle Academy is Steel Panthers Lite - and I mean that mostly as a compliment. The game plays fast and you'll experience again the fun (and frustration!) of doing things like trying to kill a Tiger with a Sherman, and watching helplessly as round after round pings off the Tiger's armor. I also note that some of the supporting assets seem more effective in the game than in real life (i.e. the B-26 and B-17 bombardments). Nevertheless, I highly recommend this game. It's good value for the dollar.

Fun graphics, good play, lots of different troop types. Doesn't take forever to play a scenario - but it's long enough to have enough to do. Would recommend to WW2 enthusiasts who like turn-based games and aren't looking to be bogged down in the heavy involvement of details.

I thought this was an excellent game - for me it was a perfect balance of being interesting and challenging enough to hold my attention for an hour or two to do a campaign mission but not so absorbing that I find myself losing days to it. Obviously it looks quite dated but I thought the actual game play and mechanics were pretty robust, some of the campaigns and missions are probably better than others but broadly I enjoyed most of them. I think there is some replayability at least, as I think I did most of the campaigns twice at least (like maybe came back and played them through a couple of years after the first time). I actually quite like the fact that in the campaigns, you start each mission with a fresh force / set of troops - it means you can take losses during a mission and you don't have to worry about losing your prime / most upgraded troops for the next mission, or loading a save game if your best unit bites the dust - it doesn't matter as long as you win the scenario with the troops you are given for that scenario. Big thumbs up from me.

I've played about every scenario available for this game, both fan made and company endorsed, so obviously I like it. This is what they used to call a great 'beer and pretzels' game, meaning it's challenging but not too complicated. Not high in realism but the tank battles are good fun and there are some challenging scenarios that require the right tactics to overcome. You will usually win, if not always the first time. My only complaint is that as the commander you have basically zero intel. You don't know where the enemy is or even roughly in what number or force composition. Heck, you sometimes don't even know what direction you should send your units. That's obviously silly but the rest of the game is fun enough that you can overlook it. After one play of a scenario you get all the intel you need. Artillery is quite overpowered but don't let it discourage you, just battle through, you usually have enough units to sacrifice a few to these 'death rays.'
