Everyone is saying Factorio meets Terraria. I've got over 1k hours in Terraria and I'd say it's closer to Starbound. But don't stop reading yet. For an early access game, there's a lot here. It scratches the logistical itch of Factorio while managing to realise it's own spin quite well. You've got your raw resources, intermediates, and science items, along with your various assemblers and industries to balance and manage. As for the Starbound vs. Terraria comparison: I think the enemies and combat feel more like Starbound, and the overall style leans more in that direction. In my opinion anyway. Add in a little Frackin' Universe (which I only used briefly and stopped supporting) and you've got Autoforge. As someone that ended up greatly disappointed in Starbound and Chucklefish, I want to make it clear that this comparison isn't a derision. I just want people to have a better picture of what this game is, and Terraria it is not. I'm not going to say this game doesn't have a way to go, it's still very early access, but it is very playable and I have found myself a bit addicted. If you are looking to plan an elaborate base of pipes and machines, this is definitely going to provide that for you. The Autoforge must grow.

It's...fine? The gameplay is smooth and it certainly plays as advertised, but I think this one needs a bit longer in the oven. The whole "It's Factorio + Terraria" summary is overstated. There's not all that much Terraria in there beyond the camera perspective, to the point that it just feels like Factorio but with extra steps, with no compelling tradeoff for the annoyance of up/down vs. north/south. Each new "area" takes roughly a minute to explore, and the only things to find are resource nodes and points for talents that, besides the inventory upgrades, are largely inconsequential. AutoForge certainly scratches an itch, and it is quirky and fun, so I definitely recommend it if you're big into factory/automation games. But if your playlist is already pretty full, it's probably worth waiting out a few updates before picking it up.

Yes, I recommend this game! Why? I absolutely love the art style, combined with factory building and exploring. And it's super chill but also makes you realy think about how to build your factory. For it's price you get a ton of hours out of it. Absolutely worth it. While writing this review I am 16.5 hours into the game and having a blast. Still discovering new things and this also changes how you have to setup your factory. I had to get used to the keybinds but you can just rebind them, no worries. The tutorial is well done for getting the basics down. The way you unlock areas is also pretty cool, it's not a huge grind wich I also love. Might get harder the further I get but we'll see. With every area you unlock there's a new adventure waiting for you and a new way to add to your factory. Does it have problems? Yes, but it's early access and the developer is streaming live on twitch where you can see him activly fixing bugs. There's alot of QOL stuff that could be added and I know the dev is activly working on added these too. While playing I encountered some bugs and at the start that required me to restart my world but that was just after 2 hours of gameplay. The dev fixed the bug and after that I could continue and found another bug that didn't alow me to progress. Guess what, during his live stream he helped me and saved me from having to restart the world. They're also very active on discord. This kind of engagement shows that they care and have passion for a game like this. I love that! This game is early access but it's just so good. Overall I can see the potential and it's very promising. I'm sure there are tons of content updates they could bring out. I can't wait to see what updates bring after the major bugs are fixed and QOL is added.
