After playing the first game I was overwhelmingly pressured to continue the trilogy, and this second installment is easily the best of the bunch. While it's not as simple or story-driven as Ryza 1, it's not the jumbled, substance-driven mess that Ryza 3 was, and this game has that perfect balance. It is weak in the story department, however. Credit where it's due, the environment of Ashra-am Baird defines this game and clearly sets itself apart from the others. However, it does feel that this story is too different and it feels as if we never get a proper reintroduction of its characters or setting in Ryza 3. It feels too drastic of a change in Ryza's persona, who was developed as that child-like, innocent girl looking to make a difference in her conservative town using alchemy, and in this game she's almost completely different, establishing herself far from home as an actual difference-maker in society. Even if it does deviate from the original idea, it does play with the idea pretty well. AR2 succeeds in the same ways that the first game did, in soundtrack, atmosphere, characters, and pretty much anything you can think of. But where this game completely excels in is its gameplay. I HIGHLY enjoyed the open-ended fun combat of Ryza 2 over the rigid one of Ryza 1 and the confusing style of Ryza 3. Basically, it finds that balance between skill, grinding, and game sense. The actual alchemy mechanics were the best they've ever been and I would be satisfied if it stayed that way through Ryza 3. The dungeon research was perhaps my favorite gimmick of this game, though. I really liked the way the executed it here and I had a lot of fun playing around with it. There's a lot to like about the gameplay, but I won't spoil it all. All in all, this game was well-made. It is not perfect, and it shouldn't be, but I do like the direction this game took. I do wish that there was a bit more of a connection to the other two games and a bit of story refining, but these continuity flaws don't bring down how great this game is. The gameplay is enjoyable, and that's all that matters in the end. To put it in simpler terms: it makes the best of both worlds.

If you played and enjoyed Atelier Ryza 1, this is more of the same but with better character development and some slight twists to progression. It's still a very casual-friendly game, but will certainly require some outside help to figure out where to get crafting ingredients because the in-game guide leaves much to be desired. Overall this is still a fun "turn your brain off" RPG in a cute and wholesome world if you're into that.

One of the best crafting mechanic, battle is fun too. Lightheaded story and likable characters.

While I still think this game was a worthwhile experience, there's so many things I wished it borrow from the first game, as it would have made it way better. This game is too reliant on Tell don't show, and it does it in the most tedious way posible (backtracking ruins is not fun) the game also has mild pacing issues, and the truth is never revealed until the very end, which by that point is already too late of a reveal that ends up on a "oopsie hehe" and the endgame doesn't really last that long. That aside, there were many other things that I found charming, like the new characters, and some returning faces that made it a very charming and endearing experience. Gust music is absolutely based, so there's that too.

After playing the entire Ryza trilogy, this one definitely stands out as the best of the three. It vastly improves on the systems introduced in Ryza 1 and just overall feels good to play (except the magic compass. That feature can go burn in a fire). Combat especially got the biggest overhaul with new features that makes it a lot more actiony for an ATB game. Main gripe with the game is just the overall progression of the game, but that applies for the entire trilogy. It just feels bad crafting gear early on when you're limited in gems and item slots, but then in endgame/post game, the stats from a strong but far-from-perfect set is already overkill. There's just a single post game boss (not counting any DLC, I have no idea what's in those) and it really doesn't do much to encourage me to actually learn to play normally instead of just deleting enemy turns. It especially doesn't help that the game has a guard feature, with no perfect taunt feature(at least not an easy one to get), and the AI is trash at guarding ! At least me missing a guard is a skill issue. Allies dying because they don't know how to block is just unfair and unfun. The skill tree was a nice addition, though certain features realistically felt required for certain parts if you don't want to get hit by any hard stat gates, like the core crystal upgrades. I can see missing that feature making the game unfun. If you enjoyed Ryza 1, this game is definitely worth it. It just does everything better.
