This is one of my greatest atelier series (if not count mana khemia). System design, concept , design, gameplay ...all well balance. Song and sound track is also very good. It very very fun to play.

The good: The characters are fun. Lydie and Sue have just the right amount of anime adorkability, and on top of that many of the characters from previous games are also back - and not just for cameos. The areas you explore are all distinct and nice to look at. No wasted time returning to your Atelier. You can instantly fast travel back once your crafting basket is full. The story is compelling enough, with more comedy than before, but also more heartfelt moments. I was satisfied with the ending which wrapped up a lot from all three games. There's plenty of late/post game content if you wanna hone your skills even further. This is really the first time I've gotten my head around the crafting system, and I enjoyed it. The meh: The open-world is gone. Much better for crafting errands, but exploration and immersion suffer a bit. I wish leveling up through combat gave you more than incremental attribute improvements. I know the focus is on alchemy, not fighting, but still. This game is a bit long, and it took me more than twice the time to complete the main story than the previous game. It also suffers from "fake out" ending syndrome, which I'm not a fan of. You really do have to utilize the Internet for hints for a lot of recipes and tips. If you're the type that doesn't like to scour through old forums looking for info, you probably won't like this game. There were two recipe ideas that never triggered for me, and it wasn't game breaking, but it was annoying - especially for the completionist in me. The final boss, as usual, is a big, frustrating difficulty spike. It took me quite awhile to work out a strategy with limited harmonium (don't ask, I was dumb), but crafting a f*ck-ton of lightning crystals imbued with Apply Slowness traits is a great start. The vedict: This is a great ending to a great trilogy (well, I guess there's a new Sophie game, too), and I'd really recommend playing through the first two games also. Next stop, Ryza...

Atelier has always had a special place in my heart. Beautiful art style, memorable soundtracks, well-thought-out gameplay and pleasant storylines are among the few reasons why I'll keep supporting the series in the future. Lydie & Suelle is one of the few Atelier games where I could barely find any flaws in everything that this game has to offer. One could argue that the gameplay is slightly outdated and I concur, but it is all the more satisfying to see how far Gust has come since this game, all the way up to the Ryza trilogy (and soon, Yumia). Yes, the gameplay is a bit outdated and some QOL features such as the item duplication came in late, which can definitely discourage some newer players who have played the Ryza trilogy and/or Sophie 2 in the past. It takes time to get used to this game, but once you do, the game opens up to all sorts of possibilities. Not to mention that some bosses in this game can be extremely difficult, which is quite unexpected since I could easily beat the entire Ryza trilogy, Sophie 2 and Lulua on Hard difficulty without much problem (granted that I don't have the DLC contents of those games). The synthesis system in this game is absolutely immaculate. If I were to rank the synthesis systems among all the Atelier games, Lydie & Suelle would definitely be on top just behind Sophie 2 due to the lack of QOL features that Sophie 2 has. Still, it is a lot of fun playing around with the synthesis mechanic of this game, and the DX version adds even more synthesis items, which further adds to the depth of the synthesis gameplay. Combat is pretty standard, so I won't comment much on that because really the fun part of any Atelier game is making overpowered items that can easily wipe out the enemies or buff your characters to the highest degree. Now the soundtrack... Let me just tell you that this game has some of the greatest soundtracks in all of JRPGs, and that is saying something. It's up there among Sophie 2 and Ryza soundtracks but this game in particular has some of the most memorable soundtracks that got me humming even after I closed the game. I know that Atelier games have always had great soundtracks so I'm kinda glad that Gust is still able to put out bangers after all these years. I really am happy to have found Gust. Their games changed my life for the better, and I even found a new hobby of picking up and learning musical instruments thanks to them. I hope they keep innovating on the series and I'll support them all the way.
