How come Steam doesn't show the players you recently played with in this game? Looking for Meep from Seattle, we discussed music and how the guys from Gojira look like an average Starbucks enjoyers, I'm Dmytro - a firefighter from Ukraine, we played together on 12th of July, it was fun, looking forward to play together again. Hope you read the reviews.

I would say that I've been an Arma player for decades, but it's more like I've suffered from playing Arma for decades. The clunk, the UI, terminator AI, the mid-game advertisements, the fanboys--it was enough to drive me off for good. I got Reforger holding out the smallest hope that it was a better direction for Arma. My thoughts after playing? Holy sh*t. UI is decent. AI is decent. You can hear footsteps now. You can hear enemies talking in local. The map isn't Greece. You don't die when you crash through a stick-fence with a truck. You can penetrate armored vehicles with high caliber weapons, instead of needing a cruise missile. The inventory is made for humans to understand. Suppression. Bipods. Switching sights. Simplified stances and movement. Better stamina. Fun gamemodes in vanilla. FRAMES. I'm going to tell my kids this was Arma 3.

I'm new to the Arma franchise - decided to try this as I have Squad - and enjoy the concept of "Team work makes the dream work!" - instead of being a lone wolf and just running around shooting opponents in fast paced warfare FPS's. The learning curve is quite steep at first - as you will probably join a server while total chaos is ensuing with players running around, jumping into vehicles or heading in all general directions - leaving you wondering what the hell you need to do :) I found simply following other players on foot or getting in vehicles them is the best way to accelerate the learning - to observe what they doing - and ask questions - generally most players are helpful. Communicating via a microphone is the single biggest requirement in this game - as the success of any match you play is largely dependant on communication with the greater team. You don't have to be chatty - but it helps if you can respond, especially when the bullets start flying. One of the things I love about this game is that you have to generally be patient to spot an enemy, you need to be tactical in your thinking - unlike many other FPS franchises - running into a base gun-ho and shooting anything that moves in site - simply does not work here - chances are you probably wont make it within 100ft of the base. I also like the fact that being killed has real consequences and you simply cant re-spawn with your squad ... which forces you to be sensible about how you approach a situation - and working as a team / squad often yields better outcomes for all involved - like not being fatally shot :). Game play performance with their new game engine seems to be consistent - without massive spikes / drops in FPS ... and even at 30 - 40 fps the game is absolutely playable and enjoyable - and actually smooth. So if you looking for a more tactical and realistic warfare FPS - with many tense in-battle and even funny experiences - it is highly recommended.

For those from Arma 3, here are some nice changes that I like: - Helicopters feel heavy and weighty; much less "arcade-like." - Binoculars do not make you put your gun away, instead they are held in the offhand. - You do not need to scroll and press space for every interaction, just press F on what you need. - Enemy radios can be stolen, allowing you to hear what they are saying. - Individual parts of a vehicle can be repaired with a wrench (engine, FR wheel, BR wheel, drive train, etc. etc.) - Vanilla medical system with morphine administration, saline bags, and bandaging. - Chance to be knocked unconscious for a few seconds when shot rather than killed immediately. - Helmets deflect bullets sometimes. - Scopes and iron sights can be zeroed for long distance shots. - Radio backpacks allow for mobile respawn points. Hope this helped.

TLDR: Honestly, I expected it to be terrible. I got worried about the mixed reviews but I chose to take the plunge. Its good, its the future of Arma. I think it all depends on what youre expecting and how much Arma you have played in the past. Whats the catch? The big problem the game suffers with in my opinion is content, the base game has not enough content for me. BUT! The modding community has absolutely stomped this, and with a built in mod installer its not a pain in the ass to play modded servers. There are problems with random disconnects and stuff like that, but honestly thats not abnormal from Bohemia so I'm gonna brush over it. Population THE MAJORITY of the playerbase is on Xbox, I didnt even know that this game had an xbox release. DO NOT rely on the steam chart for population. There is alot more Xbox players not being accounted for. This is a good and a bad thing, there are alot more people being exposed to the genre, but they can be iffy team mates at times. I am not totally sure of how they got the game to run on the xbox, but it seems to be pretty solid. This was one of my biggest concerns, I didnt want to deal with dead servers. Well do not worry you will not. Gameplay Everything plays like Arma, the guns, the movement the cars (but way better). So if you like the game play of the previous games this will tickle your fancy. The Foliage rendering is alot better, the PVP is miles better IMO. But a real big thing for a lot of people has changed. OLD ARMA UI IS DEAD. they have completely overhauled the UI, making the mouse wheel way less important. The majority of the interaction is done through key binds, inventory screens, or in game rendered 'buttons'. For example, instead of mouse wheeling to turn collision lights on in a heli, you just turn your head to the switch and the option pops up. Much more immersive and solves a huge hurdle for a lot of people. the chat system is way better utilizing the radio system for audio rather than your < and > keys. No more getting banned for voice in global. You do not need a college degree to operate the UI. I could write more, but the answer really is if you like Arma and want something new, you should just buy this game. If nothing else to get a glimpse at the future of mil-sims.
