Despite playing and finishing the game, I have to wholeheartedly ask you to NOT buy this game. It can be fun, and at times it was. But alas, it is Arma, and true Arma fans know that while this franchise is fantastic for its military simulation, it is known for severe jank and brutal level design that can often succeed in making the player miserable. This game is no exception. To make matters even worse, this game is getting very old. And while the graphics certainly can make players nostalgic for simpler times, this game is certainly not simple. It's hard to get into, and its hard to finish and a lot of frustration will happen, along with blind determination to drag yourself across the finish line and finish the final mission. Was it worth it? For a person with a backlog of games keen to get another into that finished pile, yes. As an Arma fan? eh, it's really subjective. I was just glad to finish it, so make of that what you will. It's a cheap game right now, but even for such a low price, I can't say it has value for money unless you really plan to play this game excessively, and only the most insane would do that. If you wanna relive old times, I'd recommend just watching a playthough of it, they seem to know what they are doing. But if you are happy to spend your money, go ahead, but don't say I didn't warn you.

It's just like the first Operation Flashpoint / Arma Cold War Assault but with better graphics... So expect some very fun moments combined with also some very frustrating ones.

This is the first game in the Arma series that I actually played as a young teen. The first time I saw the game was at a thrift shop for the game Arma: Armed Assault. The cover art looked cool to me and got my mother to get it for free and it costed like 3 bucks so it was worth it. This was a different experience to other military shooters I've played. After getting stuck in the game I stopped playing and went on with other games. When I played the game I was playing it in low settings because we didn't have a good PC for running games at that time in 2014 because the computer we had was like from 2007 and didn't using a good graphics card so the visuals and models looked very pixelated. After that I Arma: Gold Edition which has all the missions incluing the expansion missions. To begin this one is a big improvement over the First Arma game and Operation Flashpoint. The game you start off in a island trying to stop opposing forces from taking over. You have a chose of doing different missions that progress the story. You get cutscenes that either focus on the soldiers or on the news section of things. The animations for the characters look good. The people can blink and change expressions in the game. You get modern weapons like RPGs, Machine guns, pistols, snipers, LMGs, and much more. You can use vehicles like cars, planes, and helicopters. Some missions allow you to choose whatever weapon or equipment set up you want in the game so it's pretty smart to think what you need for the mission before you go on a mission. When you run your character does get exhausted to a point where If you use your gun it sways because the character needs time to relax before he can steady his rifle. You can go third person or first person mode in the game. Third person can be useful If your not sure If a enemies in a corner so you can use that to your advantage when getting ready to strike. For guns you can aim down the sight of guns like in the games but you can zoom in with the weapon that you looking through and switch the select fire ranging from single fire, burst, or full auto. You do get new weapons in the game that weren't in the last one like the 50. cal sniper rifle, SAW LMG, and others. When I played this game I did make it to the final mission for the main game but got stuck on it and gave up because of how hard it was. After playing Arma: Cold War Assault I had experience and felt confident to beat the game again. When I reinstalled the game I lost all my save progress but the good news was I had a cheat that helped me get all the missions so it wasn't in vain. After beating the campaign I did the other expansion campaigns. The second one called Royal Flush has you play as British Mercenaries that do jobs in a island and help someone who is a prince and do jobs for him before you get out of the island. The last Expansion campaign called Rahmadi Conflict has you do missions on a island like taking a beach, finding someone, and going to an island trying to stop civilians from getting killed and finding someone again. The 2 expansion packs are pretty short including Rahmadi Conflict since it's pretty short and has like 3 missions to do. After that you can do missions which include you making your own, doing training missions, and missions that are made by the devs. Some are easy and some are hard. Some missions you have to finish the missions in order to do the other missions. Some missions were pretty tough for me. Some I just got mad and cursed at my screen because of how unfair the deaths I had in the game were. Now for the parts I didn't like in this game. The things I didn't like are nearly the same are Arma: Cold War Assault. The enemies can still shoot you through bushes even If you can't see them. The Ai for your teammates are pretty dumb for me. When they see an enemy they either don't do anything or miss their shots. In this game you can switch the AI intelligence but for me It barely feels like it does anything. At least in this game you can save where you think it's save so I'm glad that's there. I did use auto aim which helps out a bit but sometimes doesn't hit it's target because of how far or how fast the enemy is running in order to hit them. After all that I still had some fun with the game. Even If I have a love hate relationship with this game I still like to keep playing the series. I give this game a 8 out of 10. If your going to get this game get in a sale. It's pretty worth it since you get the game and 2 expansion campaigns in one. Thanks for reading my review and I hope you have a good day.
