Arietta of Spirits is a a Zelda clone that aspires to explore more mature themes alongside its familiar gameplay mechanics, a delightful journey filled with nostalgic charm and beautiful pixel art. The short gameplay doesn't overstay its welcome and keeps you engaged throughout. The artistic direction is a standout feature, with vibes that instantly captivate you and immerse you in its world. While the story starts strong with a poignant theme of loss surrounding Arietta's family, it slightly falters in the second half by shifting focus to a mystery unrelated to her family. As a result, all the problems introduced in the first part of the game remain unresolved and basically irrelevant to the rest. This is a major writing flaw. Nonetheless, the game is a charming experience that's worth a play.

What a fantastic game! The bosses are fun, the environment keeps throwing new hazards at you, and the little goo guys are adorable. The story pulled me in and the ending was amazingly done! I love that the game was short too, it gave the story enough time to be engaging without dragging it out (like so many games do these days, to the point of losing their hook). My only criticism is that the dialogue sometimes felt forced/unnatural in the beginning of the game, but that feeling quickly went away after playing for a couple hours. I 100% recommend this game :)

I expected to play a game, not a masterpiece! 👏 Arietta without a doubt is an excellent game, and of course there are things that could be improved, but it is a game that gave me the feeling of actually playing a game. Lately, games have not impressed me and seem more like ways to make money than ways to entertain people, so I definitely recommend it.

Short, but sweet. Zelda-lite (very lite, there's only two sidequests) game that favors an aggressive run-down style of play - just make sure you avoid the tar trails enemies leave behind. Story-wise, its alright, but it feels like half a story. If there's plans for a sequel, I'd be interested.

Arietta of Spirits is a top-down action-adventure game about a girl and her spirit otter communing with ghosts. Beat it using a game controller in 3.7 hours on Normal difficulty. This game has multiple difficulty choices. Gameplay: You slash a sword and dodge your way past angry blobs and angrier bees through a handful of areas on an island. There's no jumping or running. Sometimes the way is blocked and you need to find an alternative route! I had a little trouble judging the slash range with some enemies, but it didn't really get in the way of playing Graphics: Charming and smooth. The graphics are polished. Story: It's there. There's an island. There are badguys. Every character definitely has a personality. The characters are chatty and I found a lot of dialogue revolved around abilities. The ghosts make up for it. Feel the story and gameplay balance each other out pretty well. Some parts have feels. The story's about as warm as a camping trip with family and eating apple pie. Music: It's also there. Nothing really stuck with me. Has a piano, violin, rpg, lowkey vibe. Collectibles: Arietta has four types of collectibles to flesh out the game. Two involve finding things, one involves powering up stuff, and the last involves achievements. It becomes clear near the end that the game is almost over, and there's room to roam around taking care of the first three collectibles. Getting all the achievements requires playing more than once. Difficulty: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Once you beat it you unlock Extreme. The difficulty curve is fair and gets a little bulley-helly at the very end but is doable. Saving: The game auto-saves when you enter different areas. ** Epilepsy Warning ** : You're warned at the very beginning that it's flashy. Impressions: It's a nice little jaunt, and a nice little game. You can beat Arietta of Spirits in roughly 4 hours. You can play and win it without much trouble, though Achievements require multiple playthroughs. Nothing broke or crashed during gameplay, and the enemies were fair. Wish there was more, like more ghosts to help, spirit helpers, or places to go, but there's nothing wrong with what's on the plate. That said, nothing really spoke to me in any deep way, either. This feels like the sort of game you'd enjoy the crap out of on a car ride. It's there, within reach, quick, and leaves a sense of fulfillment when you beat it. Noticed other reviewers complained that Arietta of Spirits isn't as cool as Zelda. And yes, this clearly isn't some big-name AAA title like Zelda. It's extremely unfair to compare it to that. It's a mid-brow action-adventure game. Noticed other reviews complain that the dialogue goes on forever, and nothing stuck out to me in regards to that. I will say that due to the length you should get this one on sale.
