This is a decent game and i'm happy that they have made changes to the game that allows it to be played on the steam deck since that wasn't available in the prior Max Love release. I wasn't ready to buy the whole game again if i was really only getting an extra character and some updates (since i mostly play offline) but i felt like it was fair to get the game for around 8 dollars Australian on the winter sales. as for the gameplay, its sort of similar to Dragon Ball Fighterz. you have 3 buttons for light, medium and heavy, 1 button for your projectiles/charged launchers (which would be ki moves/heavies in DBFZ) and a button devoted to chase downs and cancels. its a bit more easy to follow what's going on though with 2 characters on screen and slower movement speeds which is why i like it. combos feel similar to most system arc games where you do like 4 or 5 normals special or meter move and I find there's a lot of room to make up combos on the fly when you begin to learn what connects if you don't want to spend time labbing combos or looking them up. i haven't played any online but offline offers a decent amount of content. firstly you get a story mode, which is pretty much an arcade mode with the choice to select a fighter you want to challenge in each stage. secondly there's an after story mode that offers a more narrative driven story line for each character. There's a few stories you unlock in the gallery which, for the most part, are VNs where you experience some cutish fan service with the characters with sometimes the option to select a non-consequential dialog option and sometimes engage in a vs battle. also in the gallery there are sub-stories which are fine. they are just like mini versions of the last thing. then there is a score attack survival mode and a time attack mode. that doesn't give infinite amounts of play there but there's at least a good 40 hours there if you wanted to do everything offline. However, you might want to check out the other games; Arcana Heart LOVEMAX!!!!! and Arcana Heart 3 LOVEMAX SIXSTARS!!!!!! because this game has featured an update where the trial mode is removed, despite what it has in the description. As someone who played love max, i really enjoyed the trial modes and, in comparison, you are only really getting a new character, a new (easier) final boss in story mode and the option to buy 2 more characters. If you are mostly an offline player and you have a windows pc, you might prefer the older versions for more content.

what happened to this game is absolute tragedy. Its one of the most unique and interesting anime fighters to ever exist. Quality wise its also up there with BBCF as one of the best FGs I have ever played. If only this game could get a revival with rollback as well ;(
