This is a worthwhile game to play. And while the simulation is sufficiently in depth and complicated to maintain interest, there are elements that can be frustrating to someone who has played other titles from this game genre. As you progress down the tech tree, needs that were previously met become no longer sufficient. This forces you into a reactive play style where planning for needs, and allocating land with the assumption of stable demands, based on a population or output building in your supply chain, arenā€™t certain. Youā€™ll be forced to re-allocate land and will frequently feel like youā€™re on a teeter-totter in maintaining your colony - where a simple change can unbalance your whole system. If youā€™re the type of player who takes satisfaction from a perfect system of output to input ratios; donā€™t count on it. The campaign provides you with some harvesting goals; but itā€™s a bit akin to stockpile XYZ and then send it along ā€“ you otherwise stay on your selected map the entire time. I would have liked some scenarios where you move from map to map with different objectives and obstacles to overcome. The UI does a decent job of assisting you with micromanaging your resources and there are some structures and systems in place to streamline aspects of this. There are times where important information is hidden in sub menus. The lack of keyboard shortcuts makes accessing info more work. I donā€™t know where the development of the game is at, but to me it feels like it needs another year of attention to reach a polished state. It has huge potential and I really just want more from it. Having said that, I enjoyed my time playing the game and hours of time would fly by.

Not bad. A bit easy. Has lots to research for buildings and improvements. You plan production buildings across a limited space of ocean floor and abyss, while improving domes that rise up high above the ocean floor more comfortable and luxurious for the people you rescue from the apocalypse on the surface (automated by drones). Drones make up much of the game's workforce. There's exploration with submarine crews to gain resources, find people, or sometimes run into trouble. There's a huge future-of-humanity project to do on the side, by regularly contributing large sums of resources to them. The only issue with the game are some lags and a crash. Occasionally it will pause a couple seconds after clicking a building or menu. But twice it paused for more than 10 seconds and once it just crashed the game back the the desktop, in the later game.

Aquatico Review: Pros: * Stunning Underwater Exploration: Aquatico offers a breathtaking underwater world to explore, filled with vibrant marine life, colorful coral reefs, and mysterious underwater caves. The game's stunning visuals and immersive environments make it a joy to dive into and explore. * Relaxing Gameplay: The game's relaxed pace and serene atmosphere make it the perfect escape for players looking to unwind and de-stress. Whether swimming leisurely through tranquil waters or marveling at the beauty of the underwater scenery, Aquatico offers a peaceful and meditative experience. * Exploration and Discovery: Aquatico encourages exploration and discovery, rewarding players with hidden treasures, underwater ruins, and exotic marine species to uncover. The sense of wonder and excitement that comes from discovering new sights and secrets adds depth and replayability to the game. * Dynamic Soundtrack: The game's dynamic soundtrack enhances the immersive experience, with tranquil melodies that perfectly complement the underwater setting. From soothing ambient tunes to more energetic tracks during moments of discovery, the soundtrack adds another layer of immersion to the gameplay. Accessibility: Aquatico is accessible to players of all skill levels, with simple controls and intuitive gameplay mechanics that make it easy to pick up and play. Whether playing for a few minutes or diving deep into the ocean for an extended exploration session, the game offers a relaxing and enjoyable experience for everyone. Cons: * Lack of Depth: While Aquatico excels in creating a visually stunning underwater world, some players may find that the gameplay lacks depth and variety. The lack of meaningful objectives or challenges beyond exploration may lead to a sense of aimlessness for some players. * Limited Interaction: The game's emphasis on exploration means that there is limited interaction with the environment and marine life. While the underwater world is beautifully rendered, the lack of meaningful interactions or gameplay mechanics beyond swimming and exploring may leave some players wanting more. * Short Playtime: Aquatico's relatively short playtime may disappoint players looking for a longer and more substantial experience. While the game's tranquil atmosphere and relaxing gameplay are enjoyable, some players may find themselves wishing for more content or replay value to extend their time in the underwater world. * Performance Issues: Some players may encounter performance issues such as framerate drops or technical glitches, especially on lower-end hardware or older systems. These issues can detract from the overall experience and disrupt the immersion of the game. Rating: 8/10 Reasoning: Aquatico offers a visually stunning and relaxing underwater exploration experience that is perfect for players looking to unwind and escape into a tranquil world beneath the waves. Its breathtaking environments, dynamic soundtrack, and accessibility make it a standout title in the exploration genre, earning it a rating of 8 out of 10. However, the game is not without its flaws. The lack of depth and interaction, short playtime, and occasional performance issues may detract from the overall experience for some players. Despite these shortcomings, Aquatico remains a captivating and enjoyable journey into the depths of the ocean, worthy of exploration and appreciation. Thank You: A heartfelt thank you to the developers of Aquatico for creating such a beautiful and immersive underwater experience. Your dedication to crafting a visually stunning world and providing players with a relaxing and enjoyable gameplay experience is truly commendable. Thank you for sharing your creativity and talent with the gaming community.

It is a rather dry game despite being underwater. It is not bad per se, it is not like some building games that are exceeding hard either, it is just that it is somewhat dry. It is not a bad game, in fact, it is rather well implemented beyond that it is dull. I did enjoy the short time I played it but it wasn't really that compelling, there is a decent game in there.

A relaxing city builder. In the beginning, things are pretty chill. You receive production bonuses for building farmland on grassy areas, and oil derricks on oil slicks. There are two levels of difficulty: "normal" and "challenging" maps. You start off on a wide-open map, but eventually spend a lot of time surveying the area, and thinking about urban planning, and min-maxing your resource generation ( eventually at the level of pixels on challenging maps ). In the beginning, there are no threats, but as you build your city, you attract the attention of different species of sharks ( and pirates wanting to pillage your city ). You can build a submarine, to go on expeditions, which was interesting. It had a bit of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" vibe to it. Your city populace gradually demands a wider variety of food and luxury items, which ends up being a staggering balancing act: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3141277587 The graphics are gorgeous, with families of manta rays swimming by - it's like looking at an aquarium. The endgame consists of building an underwater super-structure. Once your city is mostly self sufficient, the endgame is super grindy. It took me a month to finish the game because I took several weeks off. Only around 1% of players finished the game and it took me 72 hours. I played a demo version of the game, before deciding to buy the game on sale. I think that this is the first game that the developers have released? I'm looking forward to future games by the developers.
