Antonball Deluxe is a fun arcade platformer that takes a lot of cues from the classic arcade Mario Bros. game, particularly the Game Boy Advance remake. It's split up into a couple titles that, while using similar movement mechanics, both feel like their own unique titles and not just different modes. Antonball itself is based on the classic game Breakout (or Alleyway if you really want to get topical). However, your character is loud-mouthed destruction worker Dynamite Anton, and he's a platformer character, not a floating paddle. So you're gonna have to keep an eye on both the ball and Anton, avoiding enemies and pits while still trying to keep the ball from going offscreen. Fortunately, Anton can dash into the ball and send it flying quickly, and high jump to reach higher spots. It's a bit tricky, but after a Steam-only patch, Anton can also double jump, which makes the game a lot easier. Another thing that makes the experience easier is the abundance of extra lives - every 10,000 points earns you a life, without the diminishing returns of other arcade titles, so getting a one-credit clear is incredibly easy. Punchball is the second mode, based more on the original Mario Bros. game. It focuses on Anton's roommate and co-worker, Dynamite Annie, and her love of violence is especially apparent here. In order to clear the stage, you have to knock out all enemies by throwing the titular Punchball at them and running into them. It's much harder than the normal Antonball game, since you can't just avoid the enemies, you have to actively get into the fray. This gets especially tricky when Mitts are introduced, enemies that can catch the ball and throw it back at you. You'll have to hit them when their back is turned, which is hard when they're at max speed or in the middle of a large group of enemies. I nearly lost my attempt at a one-credit clear thanks to them, and I have no love for them at all. Anger aside, Punchball's fun, just a bit tricky. The amount of content in the game is insane. Each mode has 30 levels, and there are a total of 21 playable characters. There are even a few characters from cancelled Summitsphere game Harmyarders, as well as guest characters Clive from Clive & Wrench and Peppino from Pizza Tower. There's also a team versus mode, as well as DLC that adds two extra characters and five hard mode levels. All in all, it's a fun time, and I'd give it a shot if you're into classic arcade games.

Excellent minigame collection that rocks in the oldschool presentation and provides some honestly pretty satisfying gameplay moments. It also has just the right amount of the rage-inducing difficulty of arcade games from way back in the day that make it feel very nostalgic as well as very fun! I have some gripes with some small mechanics here and there (like the instakill mechanics in Antonball), but those are minor issues that I can easily look past after the enjoyment I had 100%'ing this title. Furthermore, this totally convinced me to look forward to ANTONBLAST! Highly recommend!

Erm... This game was pretty good. Not really my thing but it certainly is pretty good on what it's setting out to do. Really excited to see what Antonblast has to offer and hope it gets as popular as Pizza Tower did! (Speaking of which, Peppino is in this game and Tour de Pizza and Summitsphere do apparently are on good terms, so possible Peppino DLC for Antonblast???) Anyhoo, moral of the story is to play Antonblast when it comes out if you came here after playing Pizza Tower.

As someone who took the time to 100% this game, I can say this game is pretty fun with a group of friends The sheer intensity of the ball just being flung everywhere on the screen is enough chaos for a group to handle. Though the grinding process was a tad annoying to unlock most collectibles through the lottery machine, It wasn't too annoying to the point where I would not recommend to a friend. Game is definitely better with a friend by far, as soloing the game just becomes a bit bland, but that's just me.
