This is probably one of the greatest indie titles I have ever played. I bought this game a couple years ago and never finished it even though i loved the game. Now I can say that I 100% this game :) This game felt so nostalgic to me from the 64-bit and 16-bit visuals to the soothing music of Cenote and the surrounding areas. I will always stay repping this game!!!

Unlike the first game, this one is less about dodging enemies all over the screen, and more about solving simple puzzles. Your new weapon is a vacuum instead of the dust broom. It can suck up enemies, and shoot them back out, along with health pickups and dust. Interestingly, dust is kept as a resource and no longer an element to puzzles. A welcome change-up to the formula. Anodyne 2 also aims to be a more warm and cozy experience. It has the look of a serene limited-polygon, texture-stretched world from a 3DS eShop game, with music that carries you to Heaven. There's more people around and they often got somethin' funny to say. I felt at peace exploring around and it's rare that I get to experience that feeling in an action game. The whole aesthetic feels like a warm hug. The messaging is even more upfront. It takes a different approach to talking about self-worth, with more characters and an overarching plot. Your mission is to clear the dust out of peoples' souls, and then use that dust to bring about an event that would grant eternal peace to the world. Each of these characters have a personal struggle that they need your help to fix using this process, and they're all fairly relatable. Though, if only our problems could be solved so easily; this story will be a bit more complex than that. A very lovely game, and a great sequel on top of that. I loved the message it wanted to send and it played its cards well, building up to it.

one of my favorite games ever :) fantastic storytelling, both in its overarching narrative and its individual dungeon's stories, simple but ever expanding and deepening gameplay concept that continues to surprise as the game goes on, great music... please play this game, i don't think there's anything else out there like it !

Anodyne 2 was the game that first got me interested in this dev team. The visuals and the music just really caught me right away. I played Anodyne first, and while i know its not necessary to play the games in order, i think its a good idea to, because a lot of the ideas that were presented in Anodyne are really well fleshed out in Anodyne 2, gameplay wise. I almost wish there were less time spent in 3d, and maybe a few more 2d levels to really dig into more challenging/thought-provoking dungeons. While the atmosphere of all the 3d areas is great, theres just not much to do/find until metacoins become a thing. and with that said, we come to one of my only complaints. its a bit weird, but once you hit that point of the game it almost feels like the game loses focus. i really like narratively what happens, and the best 2d levels of the game are after you leave dustbound, but i feel like it gets a bit lost in the sauce and it becomes hard to figure out where to go/what youre doing. on one hand, i like the sort of formlessness to the experience which lends well to the overall point of the story, but on the other, i almost wish we got a little more gameplay mixups a la the Nora section that "made sense" to better lead us to the ending. at 8-10 hours, its a quite well paced story, i think i just wish we got a bit more near the middleish end. overall, i cant recommend this game enough if you are a fan of introspective stories with unique atmospheres. its an experience not like any other. especially the music. i think from a total gameplay experience stndnpoint, i have to put Anodyne a bit higher than Anodyne 2, but i love the ideas that 2 went for and hold it very dear to my heart. 8.5/10

2D Zelda fans might be disappointed, since the gameplay is essentially 2D Zelda but with no items, simple dungeons, and no real progression. This was my problem with Anodyne 1. On the other hand, Anodyne 2 has an amazing and gorgeous 3D world, wonderful music, great sound FX, and character writing that's surprisingly good and occasionally emotional. If this had gameplay on par with Link to the Past, this would be a 5-stars GOAT hidden gem. Instead it's a great game held back by unambitious gameplay. What's there is great, but it could have been amazing
