Beautiful game that unfortunately makes you do 3 back flips mid air while juggling a bowling ball with your chin. The game will make you download their own launcher and then you'll have to create an account, verify account, put in a key, etc. Just a bunch of nonsense. The worst thing is that the launcher feels like something straight out of 2008. That being said, if you're willing to do all that to play this game you won't be disappointed. This game does what so few games in the horror genre are able to and that's capturing a very niche style of witchcraft/occult horror. The horror approach to this game will remind you of the scary stories about witches and haunted houses your grandma would tell you so you won't go out of the house at night. Playing through the game you'll slowly start to build a ever creeping sense of dread as you progress. The presence of evil is there, but not your typical "you summoned a demon and demon is gonna hurt you" or "you open bad box now you're possessed/cursed" type of evil. The presence of evil you feel in this game is very primal and raw. No jump scares or scary monsters chasing you. No goal to stop a demon overlord from taking over the world. Not an attempt at freeing a possessed victim from a devil of some kind. Just an ever growing feeling that something very bad happened between these walls and the actions you're taking in the game's narrative are the actions of those that invite malevolent and malicious entities to notice and look at you. The game has amazing atmosphere design and it's very creepy. Highly recommend it to those out there looking for a horror game.

I played this game back in the day on PlayStation 3. I saw it on Steam and had to play it again. I love this game. Honestly, it took me two playthroughs to COMPLETELY understand it. The game is good enough that I've played it through 3 times....twice on PS3 and once on PC.

Ohhhhh boy, where do I start with this? Just finished playing this on my Youtube channel (link at end of review for anyone who wants to see a gameplay sample before buying), and this is basically one of those games where I really wish Steam had a neutral rating option. Here's the thing - I'm giving Anna: Extended Edition a very tentative thumbs up for just two reasons. 1) Because I will admit that I did like the premise, the visuals and the atmosphere; and 2) because as stated above, there's no neutral option to choose. But I will also admit that I was quite torn on whether the negatives of this game outweighed the positives and thus meant that on the whole I should give the game a negative rating, or vice versa. So, I'll start with what I did like. The premise and setting are that you're at an old sawmill in the hills of Italy, and the visuals of this setting are quite lovely for a game that is about a decade in age at this point. Nothing amazing, but they're nice and colourful. And the game does have atmosphere, with creepy occurrences and dynamic shadows, etc. But now for the negatives, and you'll probably see why I was torn on whether to go for a thumbs up or thumbs down on this game. First of all, as many other people have noted in their reviews, when you install and launch this game you're going to get asked to sign up to Kalypso's own launcher. Basically it's the publisher's way of getting you to sign up to an account with them presumably so they can bombard your email with advertisements, special offers, or whatever. It's not the end of the world, but it's not exactly welcome, either - and I can fully understand why some people would take one look at that and immediately ask for a refund. Personally I couldn't get a refund as I'd had the game in my Steam account for more than two weeks as of when I installed it, so instead I did what other players did - I set up a throwaway email account just for use with this game. Then there's some of the puzzles. Basically, apart from being a bit of a horror, Anna is also a puzzle game where you explore your environment, interact with things, pick up objects, find clues, figure out what object goes where/with what in order to trigger something and progress, and slowly unravel the story. As some reviewers before me have pointed out, sometimes these puzzles are quite straightforward and not too difficult to figure out; but then there are others which will make you wonder how on earth you were meant to figure the solution out from the clues provided instead of just randomly clicking on every object in your inventory and then trying to use it on every interactive thing in your environment until something works (which I definitely found myself doing a few times in my play-through). By the time I got to the later stages of the game (and to be fair, Anna isn't a very long game on the whole), I will confess that I was leaning heavily on a walk-through. My other issue with Anna is that some of the in-game options from the main menu don't really work, so it's a little janky in that regard as well. For example, the in-game volume control felt somewhat temperamental, forcing me to have to tab out and use my PC's volume mixer instead. So having said all of that, you can probably get why I was kind of torn on whether to give this a positive or negative review. But, based on the two points I mentioned earlier, I'll give it a somewhat reluctant thumbs up. If you like puzzle games with a bit of a horror vibe, then give Anna a try - but bear in mind all the negatives I have outlined here, so you know what you're buying... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY3y1te9HX4&list=PL05Yc3_TEBpNodSbDRwWDOn7ZTIyvlrI6&index=1&t=413s

I know this game is old, but for its age its a great game to play. Because of the age and therefore how the graphics look, it may not scare you as much as it scares me, but the ambiance still does a great job, the puzzles are fun and the story is fantastic. And not unimportant: I expected more bugs and technical issues, but I have found only 1: the highest available resolution isnt necessarily the best choice

Its not amazing but its not bad. For the time when it came out the graphics were probably really good. They still arent bad. The music has no right to be as good as it is. It has a few jump scares here and there and for the right price this is a great game.
