I was honestly really bored searching for steam games to possibly get in the future, but this particular game caught my interest. The graphics put me off a bit, but the trailer seemed to detail aspects of the game that I wasn't aware was possible for such a simple concept. It has been done before, but not like this. Not this much detail. You aren't just caring for these virtual animals, they are yours. Your job is to feed them, care for them, and tend to their playful nature just like real animals. Sure they're a bit blocky, but before you know it you'll have four hours into the game and unable to step away because of how captivating the game can be. Some tasks may seem a bit repetitive, but the game makes up for that with how much content is put into the game. Rushing from the cat pen to the dogs can be extremely taxing, but the adrenaline is pretty much what keeps most people going anyways. You personally have to care for the animals, but if you ALSO get the DLC's then there is MUCH more stuff to do. My personal favorite installation was for the vet office putting the life of cute little conglomerate of pixels into your very hands. It's a must have if you're an animal lover, but next are some issues I have with game play. While I have praised the game, there has been minor downsides. To start, the tutorial doesn't explain enough and can leave a person very confused when you have two cats, one named Otis and the other Cheese both suffering because the mention of a ultrasound machine and how to obtain one was one too many google searches. At least you get an achievement for losing a pet once, but I will never receive Cheese or Otis again and that achievement is a constant reminder of the loss. Next off there is a bug that has been happening very often when putting an animal up for adoption, the person you try to pair them up with will disappear. And another one off issue I've had isn't so "one off" as it happens many times. I get stuck, holding a dying animal in my arms and for some reason I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME PUT THE ANIMAL DOWN SO I CAN CARE FOR IT. NO. I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I RESET THE GAME AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENS???? Lastly, I understand there is a new game in development and I would like to be one of the few game testers, but I would also like to see new content and updates for this game as well. (Just because you develop another game doesn't mean that you just leave the other to collect dust.) TLDR: Get the game if you want to care for animals and are okay under high stress games. For the consumer of the DLC-> Ps: Get the right vet office to get the proper care for your first few patients, order all medical supplies in bulk, do NOT use the storage areas because you WILL not need them unless they get fixed. For the developers-> 1.Allow animals to be trained, have them be able to do tricks. Cats can stand on their hind legs, do little jumps, and maybe even jump through hoops? Maybe an agility course? Dogs can do the same, maybe even a fashion show to attract new customers at the park? Grooming options and dressing up can be paired with adoptions, or even just for fun. This could be a playable event planned by the person playing the game as to not interrupt game play by FOMO of an event that's timed. 2.Offer more variety in play. Cats like those strings with toys on the end, or a dog that enjoys tug of war. Have the animals INTERACT with each other. Cats get into hissy fits or cuddle up and dogs play around and bark at eachother?? Have variety! Maybe dogs and cats of different personality types react differently than others? Like shy animals hate super loud or energetic ones. Maybe have the animals fight a bit and that can cause some injuries? Maybe a level of trust can be built and that can be a new meter you have to fill up before adoption. 3.Have more personalities for animals: Aggressive(cats hiss and dogs bark at you until they trust you), Shy(animals tend to run away or hide in litter box when first meeting you.) Cuddly(Friendly animals that actively approach for a pet. The traits only allow for pairing in the adoption part of the game but don't add to anything else in game play. Maybe as time goes on the animals personalities can shift and the way that you care for them can charge their grumpy nature, or cure their social anxiety. 4.Allow for different food types and perhaps even bottle feeding for younger puppies or kitties (wet/dry) allow for animals to overeat to where we have to get them to get back to a healthy weight with a walk or an exercise machine. Possibly even offer a way to process your own food that you give them like a mini kitchen you can buy (possibly a dlc) and can prepare different meals for different dogs and cats and mix and match ingredients and grow them. Maybe not slaughtering chickens, but cutting up a fully prepped one for a doggy dish. Fishing mini games to fix a kitty up a nice meal? Just a thought. 5. Allow to assist with RAISING puppies/kittens/foal. (Not sure about the ratings but perhaps even birth?) Intense surgeries and possibly even life saving (or killing) choices. Maybe not every story is a happy one? Maybe some animals need to be put to rest if nothing else can be done. 6. Add a scrapbook to save photos of the animals you have saved neatly, or offer more options for saving memorabilia? Otis died, but I still have a hair tuft from when I brushed him. 7. More decor items. Have more items to decorate your office and make more things useful. Cabinets? Can't open them. Drawers? Forget about it. It left me scattering all my items across the desk or leaving it in the box. Definitely allow storage if you have cabinets and drawers. Also more cat themed items? Like imagine having a potted plant in a cat paw shaped pot. Think about it. 8. More animal behaviors. Cats rub up on legs, scratch, bite, do the little rabbit kick thing with their feet? Maybe its a small mini-game where you go to pet a cat and if its more aggressive you have to pull your hand away because it bit you and then you have to use the bandages instead. Cats knock stuff around, maybe you have to clean up litter off the floor, or if you leave something on the surgery table the cat will smack it off? And dogs are more than just lil animals who run about wagging their tails. They can bark, howl, do tricks, beg, learn basics in training. They are messy, they slobber, they eat stuff they shouldn't, they chase cats and other small animals. Make that interactive. Train your animals and spend more time with them rather than just giving them up to continue the process. 9. Have adoptable animals be able to help you. You need a mop but you left it Satan knows where? Not to worry! Your small dog will grab that stick and fetch it to you! You want to socialize a cat that's shy but don't know how? How about providing your pet as a service animal. 10. Add different music options, different game modes, different scenarios with goals. 11. Let me have a second chance saving my old animals I couldn't care for 12. More variety in the cats you take in, their names, how they came to be, or maybe instead of just grabbing a pet from the computer you go out and actually catch the cats or dogs in parks or have them personally brought to you. Like surprise kittens in a box! (Within moderation) 13. Needs of animals vary (gluttonous are hungrier, etc) There is a lot to enjoy from this game, and a lot to look forward to, but overall the main idea is that improvement is always key. I do believe some of the stuff I mentioned could help improve your game and that maybe some other people who enjoy the game as much as I do will also agree. Make better customization, make things cute, make people want to come back. Maybe you're done with this game, that is a bit disappointing to hear if that is the case, but use this criticism to make a newer and better game so that it's not copy paste from the older game. Don't become an EA (You know who) <3
