I'd rather eat the rotten ahole of a roadkill skunk than leave a negative review on an AVGN game. The controls, music, and graphics are awesome. Gameplay is challenging and fun. Definitely a good game for fans of the Nerd.

Even if you've never heard of AVGN, this game is a really good game. The challenge is a little bullshit at times, but that's kinda the point of the game. A lot of the humor will be lost on the people playing who've never heard of the franchise before this. However, if you can ignore all of that, it's a really solid remaster of two really solid games.

This is probably the most mixed I have felt in awhile. This game is definitely based on those old NES games... even to their faults of poor design at times. The first game was infamous for this so much that for the version of AVGN1 in this bundle, they made several changes to the levels to get rid of some of that bullshit. I played both games in [Old School] mode to get a feel for the original difficulty of the games, especially with AVGN1. I also 100% all three chapters for context. (All perfects on all levels still pending) Out of the two, I recommend AVGN2 on Old School while I only suggest AVGN1 Old School if you're into those types of harder retro styled games. In general, AVGN2 is the better game here, and the new chapter they added has good levels as well (the addition of Bugs B- I mean 'The Fucking Rabbit' adds an additional AVGN element that was missing before). Try this game with caution. Good things: - Music is really good, whoever they got knew what they were doing for the OST of both games (Tower of Torment has some of the best tracks). - The main movement controls are pretty good, the lock-on button for aiming makes shooting easier to perform. - The level tilesets and backgrounds have some really nice pixel art to them, all of the new art in AVGN1 is such an upgrade. - Most of the boss fights are fairly fun once you learn how they work (Not a fan of the boss in Boo! Haunted House.) - Stages can be really fun to play due to their stage gimmicks and theming, AVGN2 has much more variety in stages. - Difficulty options as well as an Auto-Fire option help tame the difficulty or add to it depending what you're looking for Issues: Some of the mechanics are inconsistent which can cause frustration with the type of game this is. -Walljumping doesn't always grab onto a wall when trying to reach for one. - Walking on stairs while aiming messes with how you move on them. - Cape gliding sometimes doesn't work which can get you killed. - Some stage hazards have different timing depending on how you load them in. - Shooting next to the beams in the final level of AVGN1 causes you to get killed by it. - I also found a bug where I broke B.S Man's animation states The biggest issue is what they were going for and fully intentional with how they did it, however intention doesn't fully justify bad game design choices. The game has very poor enemy and hazard placement in a good amount of screens in the levels (Just because it's intentional doesn't justify it.) Death Blocks EVERYWHERE as well as enemy spamming, and offscreen hazards/enemies that WILL hit/kill you until you remember where they are

good game for fans of the AVGN series. Especially his older videos. A pretty good game. When Covid hit, AVGN is a show I chose binge watch and frankly, I don't know how I went that long without seeing the series. It's quite funny and smart. Some of my favorite quotes come from those older episodes, although there is a lot of good recent episodes too. The game is a great mega man style 2D platformer with high action and lots of jokes. Think Conker's Bad Fur Day meets classic Mega Man. A game that's very good.

Given that this is a compilation the two official AVGN games, it has to have some quality-of-life improvements which I embraced. For one, the flood of death blocks, especially in AVGN I, was a source of frustration for many. Thankfully, they have been cut down in the DX edition, especially on lower difficulties. And despite playing this compilation on Easy, some levels forced me to be really good at platforming. Good thing I learned from my mistakes and strove to get better. This is one of those "tough, but fair" action platformers that should be given more recognition. On the other departments, the sprite work is awesome, and the music is as good as it is. The in-game story is basic, but at least it carries the spirit of the Nerd. This improved edition is the one you should get.
