Excellent horror: the atmosphere, the monster and the tiny nuisance obstacles standing in your way. 9/10. You could have a perfect path to the Item you need as power is running and lights are on, great, I got it! But on the way back rats might have infested your path so you have to improvise: take a different route. But it ends up taking longer than you expected, power runs out and you're left to make it back to safety in complete darkness. And then you hear something visceral immerging before you in the distance. It felt thoroughly special and I am very happy to have stuck with it and completed it even thought it was too horrifying at times. Id always come back the next day with new confidence and ideas on how to progress. My only gripe is the loading zones between areas. It always felt too safe there, if the monster appeared in the area I was searching I could just go back to the intersection and load the next area and then come back to reset the monster. I wouldn't expect this to work without the loading zone but it reminded me that this is just a game and if you learn the logic its almost too easy to cheese.
If you loved alien isolation, this is a must play, if you see it on sale for 60% off or more grab it, you cant go wrong. Playing this with the gamma settings properly calibrated so darkness is actually just pitch black was an incredible experiance, it made me value light as a resource more then any other game ive played and made me commit to memory the halls and rooms of the bunker.
