This is one of those games you spend hours learning the mechanics... Then you discover the wiki and spend more time deep diving into the mechanics... Then you find the Discord and search the massive archive of conversations on various topics you always wanted to know.. Finally, you discover a few mods you would like to add in game along with some home brew cultivators for your next run and voila 500+ hours in game. One of my favorite games to come back to and play, try new strategies, or just hope for a bad ass roll at character creation and go with it. Nothing sucks more than your favorite mortal getting a heart attack just before you enlighten them or the random demon creature assault while your main defense force is out gathering and your mortal sprouts just get killed. Don't forget the rude guests you get that are never satisfied while visiting or the endless searching for a specific NPC. My recommendation is buy, buy, buy, and spend hours absorbing the Chinese fantasy of Xianxia and Wuxia elements. Take a break from European fantasy.

If you like the genre of Xianxia, then this is a great game for you. This game basically acts as a colony sim. You start off with normal folk, without any cultivation. Then, those that you choose (which you usually decide through their stats) can be promoted to undertake the path of cultivation. These Inner Disciples as they're called are your major powerhouse and do a lot of the work, defending your sect from invaders and going out on trips into the greater world to gather resources. They are also the ones who do things like make pills for later use. However, it's not a good idea to promote everyone into an Inner Disciple. The mortals in your sect, known as Outer Disciples, do a lot of the carrying too. Buildings can't be built without them, you can't mine without them, and you generally can't hunt without them. Heck, they're also the ones who tend to your fields, which can also grow plants that can be used for alchemy so they can't be looked down upon. The game does have a steep learning curve, but there are guides out there to help you along. You'll go through a lot of trial and error, though you'll realize it's worth it when you finally have your first tier 1 golden core Inner Disciple. This game will both ask a lot and ask little from you, especially when you got the foundations down and things are running smoothly. Though be prepared as the game can and will throw curveballs your way. It's even more so with the new update; I advise new players NOT to play with the Heavenly Chaos option chosen. If you want to test your mastery of the game, there is Immortal mode, which is basically Ironman mode, with different challenges you can choose from. It's in this mode and through those challenges that you can get achievements (barring one that you can get without Immortal mode on). Fellow Daoist, if you pick up this game, I graciously congratulate you on your path of cultivation.

An incredible game that's very complex, so it's not for casual players. Despite being a veteran of Dwarf fortress and Rimworld (and similar colony games), this game still manages to catch me off guard constantly despite the surface looking similar. I've owned this game for many years but only recently decided to dvelve into the deep gameplay after playing the tutorial several times. It has also given me an appreciation for chinese concepts that until now had been completely alien if not exotic to me, and it's a joy to learn and experience it.

There are exactly 4 other games that I've sunk as many hours into as this game - Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and The Sims. All of which are pretty old now and thus allowed me to accumulate the hours over the years. This one is different... It's a huge and complex and fun game. And yes, I find a game fun when I have to spend hours and hours reading guides, learning mechanics, testing and repeating stuff. It adds to the challenge. If I had to give up all games but one, this would be the one I'd keep. In the 1200+ hours, I still haven't "finished" the game in a way I'd like. I still heavily rely on mods to make my life easier when learning how things work and what is and is not possible. I still use guides, charts and I plan in advance what I want to do in the next few in-game months. It's not a game for everybody but for me, it's a game well worth the price and then some.

I tried turning a shapeshifting cat into an overpowered supersoldier, but she ended up mentally stunted, sickly and nearly blind. So I repeated the process with a crapton of drugs and it worked perfectly. On another note, unlike Dwarf Fortress, I was able to get killed out of my own stupidity (pissed off the wrong people and they sent three elders to "welcome me"). 10/10 amazing game, I don't usually put over 100 hours into anything that can't consistently keep me coming back.
