Alisa is a very hard game to break down as the good and bad are at times in equal measure. HOWEVER the final product overall is clearly a labour of love and worth a play. Pros + Great campy voice acting + At times a great tribute to PS1 horror + A wide variety of endings + Lots of secrets and optional outfits to find and collect + Excellent aesthetic and enemy design Cons - Harder than almost every single PS1 horror game (from someone who has beaten most of them) this requires a colossal amount of patience and luck to get through, or a very high skill level. There is no middle ground. - The "auto-aim" optional item is even less effective than auto aiming in first gen PS1 games - Story is pretty non-existent - Very easy to get soft locked and have to start the entire game again due to difficulty and lack of resources. Alisa is simultaneously a joy to play and incredibly annoying to play at times. It straddles the line of being fun while appealing to a hardcore demographic. The game lists "Souls Like" difficulty, as someone who has beaten every souls game I'd argue this is considerably more difficult. That said it looks and sounds great, is a lot of fun to explore and once you get the hang of the combat and difficulty it IS manageable if still frustrating at times. A proper easy mode (and not the bad auto-aim and body mods) would be a far better option for greater enjoyability for the player base. That said simply for the amount of love oozing from the game and the high quality finish in it's final patched state I have to give it a positive 6/10

I want to try and write this review for people that may hold no nostalgia towards ps1 style graphics and didn't grow up playing ps1 survival horror type games. If you are looking for a solid ps1 style horror survival then this game is spot on which I think is easy to gather from most reviews. I think even if the old style ps1 games hold no place in your heart, I still think this game is well worth playing. It's a very interesting world to explore with subtle but interesting lore. A lot of different weapons and outfits to acquire. Interesting enemies and bosses. Fun puzzles. Rewarding progression, I found it felt great finding a new key and unlocking a new area. Now at first I think the old style jank could be a bit frustrating but once you see how simple the enemy patterns are it becomes pretty easy. Most enemies you can pretty much just keep looping them and hitting them in the back with a melee weapon or just blast them from afar. This isn't a souls-like but is similar in that once you kind of get into the flow of things and understand enemies better it becomes significantly easier. I had a great time with this game. I highly recommend it and there is a demo you can try first if you're not sure.

While retro style games are very much in style for indie developers, it usually comes down to borrowing a few aesthetic touches here and there with most of the game being modern at heart. Here comes a true retro game, the closest thing to a classic fixed camera survival horror experience you could hope to find. Tank controls, pre-rendered backgrounds, low-res FMVs, bare minimum accessibility, the works. If you want a serious hit of nostalgia, this feels more like running an emulated classic than any new release has in a while. And it's a bloody good time to boot! If you're familiar with the genre, then all you need to know is that this one comes in haunted dollhouse flavor. A theme that is realized far more unsettlingly than I first expected. What initially had me thinking of a more family friendly alternative to blood dripping zombies quickly had me squirming uncomfortably at the first knife-handed broken-legged crawling doll lunging at you. And if you're a fan of clowns, oh boy is there a stage for you. The theme is milked thoroughly for all it's disturbing potential with lots of special enemy designs unique to each location. Some of them are one-off characters so there's new faces around every corner - more than you'll ever care to meet. As for the gameplay, expect the usual. Unwieldy combat, scarce ammo and healing, lots of puzzles, saving only in safe rooms... If anything, I feel like classic Resident Evil didn't give me quite such a hard time, especially in terms of guns and ammo. The puzzles however all feel more manageable that the authentic deal. Not having played anything quite like it in some time, it took some getting used to but all its unique eccentricities soon had me hooked. So if you're in the mood for some very classic survival horror with a unique and interesting setting, this is just the thing for you.

7/10 This is a good modern retro game. You can feel the Alice in Wonderland cross over with Resident Evil 1 throughout the entire game. Honestly worth checking out for anyone looking for a medium-length retro-feeling game. Got stuck a few times but with time and luck was able to make my way through.
