I remember going to the GameStop at our local mall with my mom to preorder this game as a birthday present, since it was coming out just a few days after my birthday. Not a perfect game by any means, but I have some good memories with this one... Thanks, mom.

I recommend this game NOT because its good, because it really isn't, I mean REALLY isn't. It does have enough nostalgia and the sound of the pulse rifle alone can, in some cases, carry it. The story is abysmal and even with the broken AI "tether" issue fixed its still bad. On the right day, in the right mood, this game CAN satify an itch to kill XENOs with complete disregard for anything else.

IF you decide to play this game here on PC, whether its the old Disc Version or the Steam version, do this after you install the game. - Launch it once - Create a profile - Start the game - Quit to Desktop after the first sequence - Go to your "My Documents" or "Documents" Folder depending on your Windows version - navigate to "My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config" - Use a text editor like notepad and open PecanEngine.ini - Press CTRL F and search for "teather" This is a misspelled word, mistaken by the developers. It is literally the one thing that screwed up the Aliens A.I. making the game bland and canny. - once the misspelled word is located, change it to "tether" and the lines should look like this "ClassRemapping=PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachMarineToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTether ClassRemapping=PecanGAme.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTether" - Save the file and launch the game. The experience will be night and day from the Vanilla version over correcting a single typo. Vanilla Experience - 6 out of 10 Fixed Typo Experience - 8 out of 10

The story follows the conclusion of the movie Aliens and could be subtitled "After funus". After the explosive introduction, you find yourself on the inhospitable surface of LV-426 and pass through familiar places: over there someone climbed into the ventilation shaft, over there are used machine gun turrets, over there Newt screamed and eggs with horny facehuggers are lurking below. The game creates an unexpectedly dense atmosphere. And what is most important? The game doesn't rush you through it all like a frightened goat. Indeed, as much as Colonial Marines looks like a reskinned Call of Duty, and as much as it is such a game to some extent, the authors are well aware that they must not overwhelm the player, but let him absorb the environment. Such moderation also feeds back the spectacular moments, of which you will encounter several in the game. A prime example is the superbly upgraded first third, where careful groping not only with aliens gradually turns into a battle for the fate of two huge pieces of iron in orbit. Unfortunately, the game does not keep up the promising pace and fails especially where the creators try to expand the alien canon. Making enemies out of Weyland-Yutani's mercenary forces makes sense, but coming up with new variants for the invaders themselves is completely off the mark. For example, when you're unarmed in a brief but tedious passage avoiding blind intruders reacting to sound, all the mood of the previous minutes is gone, and you're only trembling when you get your pulse rifle back. 25%
