Alchemist Awakened, now needs coffee. It was a very good start to this survival game. I was so impressed that after only 1.5 hours of play, I did an early access review. But at some point the game was marked as "Complete" with the Early Access tag removed. So, I guess it's done. There was very little communication from the developer. At one point, he mentioned that he was working on another project to make ends meet. I, and several other players supported that idea, but nothing happened after that. Looking back on my original review, very little of it now holds true. So it goes. Bottom line: There is a complete game with a final boss encounter and the ability to keep playing after that. There are some great innovations with the building system. I was really looking forward to seeing this project progress, and maybe it still will, who knows?

As I huddled in my hut, finally stowed away, safe from the storm, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of happiness that only comes with immersion in a well made game world. The rolling waves, the blowing wind, the rain, and the music flow with the storm. It's a feeling I rarely get anymore unless I'm painting or singing. Alchemist has won me over. One must put aside a few quibbled, but it is well worth helping such an interesting world develop. It is brilliant, if buggy. Alchemist's Awakening's system make sense & is a strong competitor in the Craft / Voxel genre. The building is efficient. The Creative mode is much more extensive than most games, combining elements of modification that allow users to create their own objects and recipes. What is quite a simple palette at first glance is really a sensible alchemy system that is much less annoying than most. The magic works quite well. Enemy AI is a bit odd, in so much as animal aggro and attack patterns. It's easy to miss when driving right into the enemy. Strafing back and swinging in time dose produce cleaner fights, so the player can dodge with some practice. Intuitive flow makes this a game that will stand the test of time with continued development, which also seems well done. Players can design NPCs and even include scripting in creative mode. Definitely worth testing in EA if you don't mind some freezes and crashes from time to time. It has locked up Windows 10 on 2 occasions now, so be warned. I believe the bug has to do with toggling Fullscreen to a window, so if you intend to use a wiki at first, go windowed mode so that you don't get this particular issue. It's not a big deal otherwise, my games were saved. It runs pretty well on old rigs, but not being able to turn off anti-alias x1 is a bit annoying. That being said, I still get about 30fps so it's also not a big deal with the other options turned down. I hope to see more graphics options for optimization, but I'm quite pleased that it does run so well. ~ If you have a little programming background and want to make an RPG mod, this may be a great new opportunity to get your story / game out there via Alchemists's Creative mode. The potential alone is worth the investment, & I have really enjoyed playing my solo adventure thus far. Players may end up providing a lot of the more important tweaks for this game while the Dev focuses on the core. There is a decent community thus far. In the quest line I am about to start taming horses and pretty psyched to get back to it. Mining is tough at first, so don't plan on digging in right away! This game is more about magic. Follow the questline and it will make more sense than treating it like other well-known mining games that will remain unmentioned.

Just got this on sale. Only making an early review since it is on sale and would urge people who like craft type games to try it. So far....entered the world started on a steep slope and slid into some monster... Take two! Spawned into a village! Stole a sword off the wall and wandered around. A nice village lady told me about a local temple and I proceeded to plunder it for tons of building materials. Leanred to create different blocks by combining elements...hence alchemy. Harvested wind, fire, and energy. Built a golem out of ruby blocks and brought it to life. Tamed a wolf and rode it around....after I jumped off it, it attacked a rhino...no more wolf. First hour was great! No bugs so far. Crafting basically consits of building a shape from materials then using a tool to make it useful. I can't wait to make more creatures and bring them to life. Try to tame more things in the world. For early access it's quite far along. My only dislike so far is that combat is clunky...and seems to not have a lot of use other than self defense. No experience, sometimes they drop some materials. But that doesn't bother me too much, the game seems to have a lot to do!...oh and no arrows! For me that's a plus, I hate running out of arrows.

Based on the limited amount of time I have spent with this game I am sure there will me more to explore. Given that its only EA at this point in time, there will be more to come. I got the game on sale which is going on right now for a little less than half the original price and I am liking it. It does not feel as mature as Creativerse, but what it has already got the better of my curiosity. What I liked about it. - Its premise is based on fantasy and magic. (This was the main thing for me. I was looking around for a minecraft like game with better graphics and based on magic. BINGO!!) - It has a unique way of crafting in the game, through assembling blocks into shapes then casting a spell on it. - There are some very powerful functional controls given to players where creative mode crafting is involved. You can even make your own customized weapons, and other items. (I have not explored this area much yet, but from watching the available video I thought it was really facinating.) - You can make your own golems of various shapes and sizes by assembling the blocks into a recognizable shape and casting the spell (I doubt there is another game out there that lets you do this). And, you can command said Golem to mine for you. - Lots of blocks, colored blocks, materials, to allow you to get creative with your creations. - You can fly, throw fireballs, and shoot lightning. - Graphics definitely looked better than the pixilated stuff you see in minecraft and its clone. - The ingame map where you actually see all the activity going on in an area around you, including where the mobs are, what they are doing, where are the resources for you to go mining for, and where are the guarded chests-o-loot which you could go killing for. What I didn't like (it is my greatest hope that they exist now because its in EA) - Even though the graphics are better that minecraft, it could still be better. - There are some annoying bugs but not totally game breaking at this point. - Not much of a tutorial going on at this time. - Not a whole of lot content in terms of fun and interesting encounters. - The mob AI could be drastically improved on. - No caves and dungeons to explore ("Yet", I hope).

Alchemist's Awakening is quite different from most other crafting games. The genius of the game is that everything in the world is divided into a number of elements. If you want to build something out of planks (nature), you can go ahead and gather grass (nature) and then make planks out of your nature element. There's no more need to travel endlessly to find the things you need. Even better still is that you can give life to your creations. A first of its kind, where crafting is combined with actual moving objects! This is something that has been lacking in many crafting other games. Even though the game still has several bugs at the moment of writing this, I find it a very enjoyable game and have high hopes for the development. Worth the €8,- I spend on it!
