I first played AOE II when I was six years old, introduced to it by my dad. It was my first experience with a strategy game, and it left a lasting impression on me. I remember being fascinated by the chance to build my own empire, manage resources, and lead armies to victory. It was both fun and educational, teaching me about history and strategic thinking. Age of Empires II is a timeless strategy game that has captured the hearts of gamers for decades. Released in 1999, it remains one of the greatest strategy games you can play, offering both depth and accessibility that appeal to players of all ages. The game allows you to control different civilizations, each with its unique units and technologies. You can play through various historical campaigns or create your own custom scenarios. The balance between building your economy and defending against enemy attacks makes each game a thrilling challenge. Even today, AOE holds up as one of the best strategy games available. Its blend of engaging gameplay, historical accuracy, and charming graphics makes it perfect for both newcomers and veteran gamers. For anyone who hasn’t played it yet, it’s a fantastic introduction to the strategy genre. Whether you're playing solo or with friends,

Amazing game, trash devs. First they release Definitive Edition and stop updating this one (which is fair), but then they tried goading the playerbase to their new game while literally acting as if this game never existed. People who played AoE in their childhood are here for this game specifically, not DE!! If you want to get this on sale, forget it. Devs are now making sales for their "new" definitive games exclusively. In other words, this gem here will never go on sale again. Oh...did I also mention they drained the logo of all colour and added retired to the title...like who does that??

Wait what? I was going through games I played and found the game cover became black and white and clicked on it to find it "retired"? Last time I played was December 2023 and I did NOT see this coming back then. What does retired even mean? I bought this game and imo it's a game that's so classic that ppl will go back to countless times. I just don't get the need to "retire" this one just because there's a new remaster. Oh well, I guess you see new things from time to time.

The best version of Age of Empires 2. It does not suffer from the trapping of live service gaming like the Definitive Edition. Please Microsoft, keep it alive

The game is good, but what does retired mean? How does one own a retired game? Ok, I'm already convinced it's Xbox Game Studios being greedy. I've paid ~40$ for my AOE2 HD edition in 2013 and onward. Then they publish a new game which is the same, the difference is that the old version is decorated as obsolete and they obviously want me to pay again to have the latest stuff with the pretty new graphics. I don't think there's been one offer for those of us who own it, to save a little when purchasing the newer variant. Greedy and bad, guys...
