In this game of decisions that matter, there is quite a lot to do in the first several hours, including learning skills, crafting weapons, armor and trinkets, and even weapon enhancement. There's crazy skills that you can combo off on and when combined with other characters skills they interact on a higher level. This includes Limit-Break type skills and you can even combine those too for major finishers! Speaking of which, when you overkill an enemy on the tactical combat board, you will get loot that you can use for crafting or sell for gold to buy more skills.

Let me Preface this with a simple statement - I have not completed Agarest. I haven't even finished the first Generation of the game which should be an exceedingly easy thing to do. I've made the decision after 20-Hours of Grinding that this game is simply not for me. I like grinding games quite a bit and, I'm sure, if I got farther it might actually be enjoyable. This lies in the reason that I am putting it down now, however, as it shouldn't take this long for the game to catch my interest. It is a slow burn but - I am going to recommend this game still. I am going to recommend it because it is built for two separate Audiences. Those that like Visual Novels and those that like Tactical Based RPG Games. If you like both of these types of games, and don't mind a grind, I can recommend Agarest. If you like one of these, the Tactical Side, this game has a lot of potential from the ground-up with positioning, alone, and the available skills. It does, however, have a huge grind behind it. One that is required for you to actively get what you need. I recommend this game because of the potential it has even if I, myself, will not be playing it or the sequels. I recommend it on the idea that the person buying it is interested in this type of game and can put up with a slow combat system and vast amounts of grinding that may, or may not, get better near the end. This Review was written as I try to work my way through every single game in my library....

The Agarest IP is excellent, basically, you modify the next generation MC with the choice of the current MC's partner. The combat is almost perfect, it's great doing various combos. However, the battles are slow, which made me give up on it in the third generation back in 2016. For Linux distro users (including SteamOS), we can finally play Platinum level. One more game that goes into my backlog, thanks to Valve, which makes gaming on Linux possible, even for niche JRPG games like this one.
