A simple platforming game with some basic puzzles. Nothing too crazy. The game is fun, but controls are a little wonky. The character feels heavy and not very responsive, but at times requires precision to go through a hole quickly or land on a specific small platform, while avoiding lots of enemies. Some enemies patrol predictably, while others are chaotic, which is frustrating. There are a few different puzzle types that you learn which are mixed and matched together to form some harder challenges. Most are a breeze, but a few take some time, but only because of issues I've mentioned. I can see how this game was leading to Gateways, which has some similar mechanics, only is a much better game. It too struggles from the same sluggish heavy movement, but it's more of a drawback in this game. The game is good enough though and provides about five hours of entertainment solo. There are some local co-op levels I didn't play, but that could add a bit more enjoyment for those with another person around. Regardless, it's very fairly priced and provides plenty of fun.

A charming platformer with a loot of different mechanics to explore and master, although a short game with a bit of clunky movements.

The Adventures of Shuggy is a fun and short 2D Puzzle-Solving, Platforming game that is a fun way to kill time. I haven’t seen many people talking about it if at all, so it’s a pretty underrated game that flew under the radar. I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece or anything like that, but it is certainly fun to wrap your mind around each level and how to solve them. Even if, at it’s core, The Adventures of Shuggy is a Puzzle game, the levels don’t require that much thinking to solve, meaning that they usually aren’t that complex. It can still take a few tries to beat the levels, but it isn’t that difficult. Most of the time the difficulty comes in the fact that levels can be a bit frustrating at times, but often the difficult part isn’t figuring out what you’re meant to do, it’s rather doing it, which also isn’t that hard but there are often minor annoyances that can get you killed, like a mosquito flying in the wrong direction, making you feel like the universe is against you (Ok, I think I’m going too far now) The game isn’t very long either, it can be beaten 100% in under 12 hours so it won’t take long to finish. The objective of the game is simple, you go into a level and have to collect all of the gems spread therein, but it doesn’t ever get stale or repetitive as there are a number of different areas too that introduce new and different concepts, such as: manipulating gravity, teleporters, a rope to swing with, evil clones of Shuggy in a timer… All of these make it so it doesn’t ever feel boring to pass the next level. There is a story in The Adventures of Shuggy, but it isn’t very deep as that isn’t the main focus of the game. It also has a few bosses, which are good enough for what the game is, but they are evidently limited by the fact that you can’t really attack per se as there is no attack button. Finally, I wanted to mention that the game includes Coop levels (which are separate from the main levels) and also has a DLC, Shuggy’s Teleporting Troubles, which focuses more on solving levels using the Teleporter feature. If you are a Completionist like me, know that most of the Coop levels are doable solo (provided you have 2 controllers) with the exception of Get a Move On. Overall, I’d say The Adventures of Shuggy is well worth your time, and I’d really like to see this game get some more public recognition. You just have to keep in mind that the game isn’t meant to be the next big 2D smash hit, rather a fun, short game to be enjoyed for a few hours. Final Score: 7.5/10 Good (Worth playing)

Still fun, even after 10 years Adventures of shuggy is an action puzzle-platformer. Base game contains 5 locations with about 100 levels in total. Your goal in each level is to collect all crystals. Each level tries to be unique with different solutions and it turns out pretty good, despite the fact that some levels still remain quite repeatable. Game is not hard, neither in platformer aspect nor in the puzzle one, every level is completed within 5-10 minutes maximum. Saw people complain about control, idk about that, everything seemed fine for me, at least on keyboard. Story is not worth mentioning, it is just there, cute, funny, but not memorable. One drawback I would point out is art style and soundtracks, they are fine, but for me both of them is somewhat overloaded. Too many redundant objects on the screen, sometimes they interfere the gameplay, didn't really like that. Same with the soundtracks, they are nice, but they does not suit the topic of the game. It seems that you are not playing puzzle-platformer with cleaning house and defeating goofy bosses, but conquering some kingdom. There is plenty of content in the game, but for me it was too much, got tired by the time I was finishing last achievements. Devs could make less levels and game would not be worse in that case. Besides, some levels still remain a giant mess with tons of enemies without any interesting solutions. As for additional stuff, there is a coop mode. Very fun and quite short, still contains same 5 worlds, but with much less levels in each, completed it with my gf on one keyboard, some levels may be quite hard for the person that almost never play games, but overall it is a nice addition to the game. And also there is a free DLC, that contains 40 levels with teleporters, also was pretty fun to complete, those levels are much harder in puzzle aspect, so it also took some time. I've completed the game 100% in about 7-8 hours. For that price that is a lot of content. Definetely recommend.

Been meaning to put up a review for many years. Was very innovative for it's time and has a lot of things I enjoy (gameplay, graphics, platformers etc..) Big thing, if this ever got re-released, would be to shrink down the total # of levels and focus in refining the parts that work. For example, any level where I need to move those creatures is such a pain and frustrating. Similar, the "multi" levels when you don't want to run into yourself can be fun, but be nice to have a button to make the switch etc.. Overall great game for its time, worth checking out at this price point.
