Simultaneously scratches the Motherlode/Mega Miner nostalgia itch and refreshes the genre with modern and inventive mechanics like biomes, cave-ins, New Game+, a moderately interesting storyline (but you're not playing a mining game for the story), and a few secrets that I shan't spoil. It took me about 10 hours to complete the game for the first time (not that I'm any speed runner or anything) and then New Game+ and achievement hunting added another 8 hours of non-repetitive play. At CDN$9, the game is priced very fairly. Being natively available on Linux is a massive plus as well - as good as Proton is, having a native build means I don't have to worry about a Proton update breaking this game!

8/10 A short but fun digging game. As far as digging games go, Ad Fundum is a pretty decent entry. The gameplay is solid, the graphics decent, the biomes enjoyably varied in their challenges. The earthquake system was certainly a plus. Upgrading your mech feels meaningful and rewarding. The music was nothing special, nor was the story, which was pretty trite and uninteresting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for a game like this, where the primary purpose is to mindlessly dig deeper and deeper. All round an enjoyable, albeit short, experience.

Not so bad, not so good. Too much of a push for a story when the game is just a simple chilly thing. The plot overcomplicates a simple pleasant air this piece would otherwise have.

Great game, if you enjoyed Motherload, this'll be right up your alley. One thing, Dev if you read this. Please make it so the game auto consumes a refueling pack from your inventory when you run out of fuel. This feels like a seriously needed quality of life fix.
