The mechanics of this game is very much misunderstood. It's a Hack and Slash dungeon but the fight mechanics is more like Fighting Game than a Button Masher. You have to learn to dodge, parry, area control, time combos, find openings. You have special moves that you assign to Up, Forward, and Down buttons, activated with the special move button ala Smash Bros. You can think of it even as a Soul's-like. The unfortunate thing is that sometimes you get surrounded by three enemies of differing types for example, where you sometimes get locked into a combo or having to defend most of the time from barrage of attacks. Also, if you have stopped playing this game for a while, you will forget the nuances of the fight mechanics too. After coming back to it after many years, I forgot everything and have to learn again from the beginning.

Really awesome game, I don't get the complains. Easier solo, coop with friendly fire raises difficulty more than the enemies.

okay abyss odyssey. Its a rogue lite with smash melee mechanics that won't last you very long. How long exactly depends on how much you played those games. In my case any time i pick it up i beat it in one sitting. It doesn't really have anything resembling a post game or a vertical progression, moreso lateral where in a run you get items and are expected to succeed with the bare minimum. I have very few nice things to say about this game, which is a shame, i've always had a soft spot for it, but quickly run out of things to say. Its beautiful, easily one of my favorite soundtracks and thematically its very rich, capturing demons all with their unique movesets is a noble feature with a lot of effort put into it but i can't help but feel like a lot of what it has mechanically is very trivial, it purports a sense of depth at first and falls apart in the space of an hour. I really want to play this co op someday. If you remember the story mode in brawl i think you'll understand what makes this fun, i definitely think it would have benefited from not being a roguelite, ace team produces games with extremely rich, creative ideas, so unique and lovingly put together, all they've made is a breath of fresh air, but sadly the games themselves are a bit middle of the road, i'd love for them to find continued success even if its through unremarkable gameplay. ACE exudes a deep passionate love for originality, for mixed media, good music and strong foundations, a balance between good feeling movement and jank you can endear yourself to, they're a bit of a treasure in my opinion.

This game gets a lot of hate for being clunky. Or for being too hard, or simply bit too weird. Personally: I actually really enjoyed playing it. Story of this game felt very interesting to me. Various characters and really good monsters. World design is also quite nice in my opinion. Art style of this game overall is 10/10 for me. It had very much the iconic ACE Team charm. With Golem from Zeno Clash as fun lil cameo. This really is a nice game, especially in co-op. In my opinion it is a heavily underrated game. And I don't think this deserves mixed reviews. While it isn't for everybody, I do enjoy it a lot. I just wish they made a bestiary for it though.

For me this is a very unusual game, is nothing to compare. Very original game story. Procedural level design, your adventure always different. A wide variety of characters is a plus of this game. A very unusual game balance! Beautiful graphics and a very atmospheric music. Single play, i finished in 20 minutes! Is it too short gameplay!
