A hidden gem of a game that initially looks like it might be a bit underwhelming, but then turns out to be a cracking experience. The game transports you to the wild yet homely environment of the Scottish Highlands. No previous experience required. The story of the Highlands get revealed as you explore the various possible routes in a soothing and comforting way. The game consists of two main objectives of climbing peaks and reaching the protagonist's uncle in time for the local Beltane festival. These objectives are mutually exclusive in that you cannot actually go out of your way to climb peaks, and realistically expect to arrive at your uncle's place in time. This virtually guarantees the game is replayable, just to accomplish more of the objectives. The game still finishes with a positive outcome, even if you arrive at the uncle's place late. The game mechanic is very enjoyable, making climbing ridges, descending slopes and choosing routes quite fun and playable. Running out of puff was also fun and important to the success of the climbs. Subsequently, the weather and time of day are important factors in the success of recharging the protagonist's energy levels. The highland song musically generated 'dances' mini-games were great and get you hoping over the rocks while chasing deer at a moderate speed. The auto-generated journal was also useful in creating memories and clues to routes to your destination. A very recommendable game for those who might like to try moderate exploration in an idyllic and natural environment, or just enjoysuch a soothing game.

I really like the atmosphere and the story of this game but make no mistake - it's a platformer at heart. I'm not sorry I bought it but it's not as chill as people say if you're not a good jumper and climber - and oh, how I've tried since Zelda: A Link to the Past except now I'm on a keyboard and my fingers are much older.

I bought this game because it was recommended on the German WDR5 radio show "Scala" and was immediately enraptured. If you think you could have any love for Scotland and the Scottish dialect, this is the game for you! Gameplay is more on the casual side, but graphics, music and the beautiful voice acting ooze way more charm that any of the "AAA game" crap on offer these days.

A few quick notes before purchasing this game: [*] This game is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. [*] Yes, sometimes controlling Moira can be finicky and even frustrating, especially as you progress through layers or in particularly tricky spots in the steep and snowy mountains. [*] You will not find, know, and get everything on one run, or maybe even the first few runs. You may not even get to the lighthouse. [*] This game is dependent on your ability to navigate and successfully reach your destination. It is not necessarily linear and success is not guaranteed. If you enjoy atmospheric, exploration games, and storytelling that is dynamic and relies on your drive to immerse yourself in the story and the world, then you will likely enjoy this game. Navigation and control will get easier with time, and you'll begin to recognize and use trails and landmarks as you become more familiar with the highlands. This game is beautiful. The art, the music, the way you progress through the layers of the highlands... it's beautiful. Each run is a short experience, my first took me about 2-2 1/2 hours, but that's not the point. This game is meant to be played multiple times. You won't get the full story on one journey, you'll need to explore to uncover the little grains of story and history which will provide deeper meaning on what you've found so far. It's taken me three journeys to more completely understand why I was taking the trip and what it meant, and I mean to play more to unearth yet more stories of the people you meet (I met 3 people on my third run that I'd never even seen before!) and the little mysteries I haven't quite figured out. I still haven't found, climbed, and named all the peaks yet, but that's okay - it's about the paths I take to get there as much as it is to try and reach the peak. I still haven't beaten my time of arriving the day before Beltane at 7 am. As you make your ways to the lighthouse, you'll find maps, items, little mysteries, and sometimes people or situations that you won't be able to solve on that journey. You keep your knowledge, items, and maps as you go forward, so you're able to come back to them. Like Moira is drawn to the lighthouse, I feel drawn to keep trying to learn more and explore the paths I haven't taken. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, I can't recommend it enough.

A very charming trek through Scottish landscapes and folklore. I lost my Mom last month. She grew up in Scotland, was very outdoorsy, hiked a lot, listened to Celtic music. We went on a trip around Northern Scotland in my early teens that I cherish a lot. So this game brought up a lot of memories in the best way. It's a game about getting lost and finding your way.
