Would I recommend this game? Yes but no but maybe. It is an interesting take on the knowledge game genre were the main means of getting to the end is by acquiring information and finding out "where to look". If you'd know the answer you could skip to the ending right from the start. What I liked was the general setting of the game, the fantasy of working through a massive archive, skimming through boxes of information trying to slowly put a large mystery together. Yet, I feel the game left this fantasy a bit unsatisfied in the end. One of the key parts which makes reading crime/thriller/mystery novels so great is the final reveal at the end, the "epiphany" and you finally understanding what has happened, how and why. This game does not offer a definitive answer to the question it asks at the start. There is some answers, yet there is still a lot left to be desired and for you as player to personally build your own opinion of what has transpired. I assume there's people who like this kind of ending. An ambiguous net of schemes, information and misinformation, guessing and interpreting. For me on the other side it felt underwhelming and once the ending triggered I didn't think I had "gotten" it. I thought I had missed something. Luckily the game does give you the option to jump back in and discover what you missed but I then realized I didn't miss anything - the answer I was looking for was simply not there. The journey to get there was interesting and it kept me entertained for an evening but the itch it created wasn't scratched sufficiently. Some other minor details I didn't enjoy as much were the controls, being a bit wonky, and one other thing: the game trying to be "spookier" than it needs to be. The general atmosphere is eerie and you always feel like you're being watched/followed and feel generally unsafe. If it was just your imagination but the game never acts upon it I could get along with this. Yet I felt all of this was not by accident: the game tried to make you afraid and I just didn't want or need it to the degree the game played the spooky card. I was there to solve a mystery that had long been swept under the rug, not fear for my life out of no apparent reason. It's experimental, it's special, it is an interesting prototype of a genre that could use more refining, but it left me unsatisfied in the end. For it's small price I would recommend it to people who want to try something different and who are not opposed to the description I gave above, yet I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

As a concept this is excellent. As an experience, one review says it's too short. Another way of saying that is 'I want more'. I want more. I hope this inspires a larger sequel.

No game will ever again scratch this extremely specific itch. Devestating.

It's a cool concept. I "beat" the game by finding the final document, but I don't think it was the intentional path. I found Helliwell's name in the card system through an inference I made, which led to the Annex B key , which led to a single box, car crashes into the building , and the game ended. I didn't even read the final document because I stuck it to the board in order to deal with the earlier issue, and ended the game. I imagine it could've been way cooler if I had not taken this path. For the price, it's a fun experiment, just a bit miffed I beat it without even fully grasping what I was uncovering.

There were a couple of times, that had me question, whether this was secretly a horror game. Echoing footsteps not your own, suddenly bursting lightbulbs, eerily ringing telephone with no one there when you answer. But no, no monsters, just your imagination. This is a short game, with no replay value. Luckily the price isn't that big either. When the game boots up, there is a message that recommends you to take notes with pen and paper, but that is mainly for writing down the next archive box number. I don't know why it wasn't possible to just pick up the card and keep displaying it on screen, instead of having me waste paper. The game makes you feel like a detective, pinning newspaper clippings and other documents on a corkboard and drawing red lines to make connections. The case is taken from real life, not even the names have been altered. A quick glance at wikipedia gives you more in depth knowledge about the case than the game ever will. The ending was a disappointment, offering no real closure. But at least there was an ending, as there were times when I questioned if that was the case. You get the gist of things about half way through, but the game keeps going, presenting the same facts.
