It's the best episode in 9-nine yet. 9-nine is the gift that keeps on giving, it just keeps getting better every episode! This one was a little longer than Sora's, but had better action, suspense, and of course, Haruka. I can say confidently that Haruka has become my favorite girl in the series, and her circumstances are really interesting. Of course, she really shines here, with plenty of focused development and great SoL scenes that make you really appreciate her. She's just the best, not much else to say. I really love Haruka. One thing I really appreciate about 9-nine which we will have to see if Criminal Border is the same, but man does it have a great balance between fun SoL scenes, serious moments, and action. It's a great formula that keeps you hooked. Of course the art is great, with the addition of a few new tracks makes this game undisputedly the best so far. Wonderful H scenes that were really damn good... I had a TON of fun reading this. I can't wait to read the next.

To my fellow Sora enjoyers: you already know that nothing will beat Episode 2. In Episode 3, Sora is still as funny and cute as ever, although sadly you won't be performing any ... societal taboos ... with her in this episode. That being said, Ghost really picks up a lot of the slack. Takamine (the redhead guy) is also a lot more entertaining this time around.

As you can see from the ratings, this is perhaps the least positively received of the series. I certainly won't call it bad by any means, in fact I liked it even more than episode 2. If you're this far into 9-nine, I can assume that you probably have played the 2 previous episodes, so I won't be blurring out spoilers from the first 2 episodes, PLAY EP 1 AND 2 FIRST. You have been warned. Now to the review. First and foremost, ep 3 expands on some the world of 9-nine by explaining some unanswered plot points, such as the ending of ep 2, illusionary bodies, Iris and Kakeru's overlord, which are much more relevant to ep 4 and the series as a whole, than say ambrosia from ep 2. Haruka is the main focus of this ep, so her powers and story are explored as well. Controversial as it may seem, Haruka is up there as one of my favorite characters, not only does she see character development, but her development is also crucial to the plot. Her character is what I would describe as having 1.5 dimensions, because there is clear progression in her arc with the added bonus of being plot relevant, but nothing really deep. I'm a real sucker for characters with dual personalities and Haruka is no exception, she's normally shy and relies on her alternate personality to call the shots whenever she feels overwhelmed by a situation. The Queen herself is more concerned of maintaining appearances than actually being strong or independent. Towards the end of the story, Haruka opens up to Kakeru and the rest of Valhalla society and during a critical moment, instead of ceding control over to the Queen, Haruka steps up and combines the best aspects of her personalities and transforms into a strong and independent leader, who is willing to stand up for herself and protect her friends. At this point, we're all familiar with the series' two-act structure of "forcing us into the bad end first, then pulling a save-scum to get into the good end", my issue with ep 1 and 2 is that characters lose their development after we have gone into the good end. They are essentially the same character as they were in the bad end, but just alive. But for Haruka, that isn't the case, which I find very refreshing. To some, episode 3 lacks the stakes and emotional pull that was present in ep 2 and I would agree, but in the grand scheme of things, you'll be getting more of that sweet torture porn in ep 4 anyways. Ep 3 is more wholesome in developing Haruka and it's world building serves as a prelude to the much anticipated climax in ep 4. It has merits on its own, being what I had hoped ep 1 would be while also being important to the series as a whole.

Haruka = CUTE = JUSTICE Not mentioning the star of this episode, which is definitely Haruka, the mystery is unfolding a lot. You now have some control over the protagonist action: use previous episodes knowledge. Additional stuff(significant) -More Haruka's portraits, which are PERFECT for her character and are really really CUTE. -More BGM, having insane quality. There's a boss fight that is quite long/exhausting but it is very cool. Anyways, HARUKA BEST GIRL.

Definitely better than Episodes 1 and 2. The first half was great, especially the big confrontation, which is my favorite moment in the story so far. However, that confrontation/climax came too soon in the total duration of the story. In other words, again, like Episode 2, this negatively reminded me in some ways of the writer's previous work, Nanairo Reincarnation. His biggest flaw seems to be that he drags the story out way too long after everything has more or less been resolved. In this case, the last half of the VN was frustrating to read, and seemed to just be tacked on because the average VN reader expects romance and adult content in their VNs, and this Episode needed to follow the pattern of the previous two Episodes focusing on one heroine. Ultimately, I did enjoy this Episode, as it has some of the highest highs in the story so far, and Kakeru's romance with Haruka makes the most sense of the heroines explored through Episodes 1, 2, and 3. It's just unfortunate that this Episode continues the annoying trend of this writer overpromising on the fantasy elements and density of the content that relates to the actual hook of the story, and pandering too much to the average VN reader's expectation of romance and adult content. 6/10
