This game should serve as a standard of otome games. There are 7 separate routes with just enough meaningful choices, awesome visuals and soundscape. Naturally, the story is all we want and it's there - layered mystery, romance, fun. The only concern is crashing for an unknown reason, so i recommend to run it windowed and save every time there's a choice branching. Other than that, 7'sCarlet is an absolute must have for otome lovers

Dec. 2024
Iā€™ve just finished 7ā€™scarlet, and I think itā€™s one of the most captivating otome games Iā€™ve played. This mystery-themed visual novel strikes a delicate balance between suspense and romance, set in the atmospheric, folklore-rich village of Okunezato. While itā€™s not without flaws, the overall experience is one I wonā€™t forget anytime soon. The plot revolves around Ichiko Hanamaki, who travels to Okunezato to uncover the truth behind her brotherā€™s disappearance. Each chapter brings a mix of suspense, drama, and intriguing revelations about the villageā€™s dark secrets. The pacing is spot-on, with every route adding new pieces to the overarching mystery. What I appreciated most was how the game kept me guessing without feeling overwhelming. Even the true endingā€”while somewhat predictableā€”was emotional and gripping. While this isnā€™t a lighthearted romance, if you enjoy a mix of thrilling mysteries and love stories, 7ā€™scarlet wonā€™t disappoint. The love interests in 7ā€™scarlet each brought something unique to the table, with their routes offering a mix of suspense, personal growth, and romantic moments. Hereā€™s a quick breakdown of my impressions (without spoilers!): Hino: His route feels like a warm-up for the rest of the game. While his romance leans into the classic childhood-friend trope, itā€™s lighthearted and amusing. His characterā€”a mix of sporty and secretly dorkyā€”added a fun, endearing vibe to his story. Isora: If you like your otome with a touch of creepiness, this is the route for you. While his story doesnā€™t dive deeply into the overarching mystery, it creates an unsettling atmosphere that left an impression. Isoraā€™s personality is surprisingly complex, though I wish the game had delved more into his temper and actions rather than leaving them unexplored. Toa: What a surprise! I started his route with low expectations, but it completely floored me. Toaā€™s story is easily one of the highlights of the gameā€”full of unexpected twists and emotional depth. His arc caught me off guard in the best way possible, making him my favourite character by far šŸ’–. Sosuke: This route had me on the edge of my seat. The suspense builds beautifully, with plenty of intense moments balanced by a romance that feels genuine and well-paced. I loved how both Sosuke and Ichiko grew as characters, and his perfectionist quirks made him more relatable and fun. Yuzuki: If youā€™re after a route that combines drama, action, and romance, Yuzukiā€™s story is the whole package. Despite its fast pace, the events never felt forced or overwhelming. His cold, aloof demeanor hides a warm and caring side, making him a compelling character both romantically and within the mysteryā€™s context. And what of the protagonist? Ichiko is a bit of a mixed bag. Sheā€™s determined to find her brother, which drives the story forward, but her recklessness and naivety sometimes made me want to yell at the screen. Still, she had her moments, especially when she got adorably awkward in her romantic interactions. While sheā€™s not the strongest otome protagonist Iā€™ve seen, sheā€™s far from the worstā€”and her persistence and occasional clumsiness made her endearing enough. And finally, the art in 7ā€™scarlet is gorgeous, and the character designs are spot on. The backgrounds capture the eerie vibe of Okunezato perfectly, and the CGs are beautiful. The animations and cutscenes were a nice touch, but the story wouldā€™ve been strong even without them. The music really stands out, setting the tone for both the mystery and the more emotional moments. The voice acting is solid and brings the characters to life. What I Loved: - Gripping mystery with excellent pacing. - Each route adds something unique to the overall story. - Gorgeous visuals and a great soundtrack. - Toaā€™s route is an absolute masterpiece! What Couldā€™ve Been Better: - Some routes and character actions couldā€™ve been fleshed out more. - The secret routeā€™s ending felt rushed and underwhelming. - Ichikoā€™s naivety and recklessness could be frustrating at times. Would I recommend 7ā€™scarlet? Absolutely! If you love mysteries with romantic elements and a touch of suspense, this game is for you. Itā€™s not perfect, but its unique setting, gripping plot, and memorable characters make it a standout in the otome genre. Whether you pick it up on sale or at full price, 7ā€™scarlet is an experience worth having. Just be ready for some emotional twists and turnsā€”youā€™ll get attached to the story and its characters before you know it!

[STEAMDECK REVIEW] First off, this game does show as unplayable on the steam store page. However, I personally had no issues with it. To each there own if you want to try it out. I had started off playing this game on my PC and actually had issues playing it on there, so when I got my steamdeck I replayed the entire game on that instead just fine. The game was super fun, I put 41hrs into it! I loved it a lot and absolutely recommend it! It deals with mystery, fantasy, horror and a dash of romance in each route. The secret ending or "true route" so to speak that you unlock, was really the crazy plot twist for me and super tragic/bittersweet so fyi going in! This game really kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more about the MC and the people around her. I even balled my eyes out on one of the RO routes. So prepare for tears to be spilled! The game art is absolutely gorgeous too! The artist was KURAHANA CHINATSU whose worked on some popular BL games you might know as Lamento-Beyond the Void or Togainu no Chi. In the end, this game gave so much. I will say, it follows more of the plot with mystery & urban legends for the MC vs romance if that was something you needed to know. This game was one of the best otomes I've certainly played on Steam to date and won't be forgetting it anytime soon. GAME WARNINGS: This game does deal with some sensitive topics which may or may not be limited to: Death/Loss of Loved Ones, Murder, Martyrdom-Self Sacrifice, Obsessive/Possessive/Captivity/Stalking-Attacking/Predator like behaviors from certain ROs in certain endings or from the characters after the MC in the game.

A lot of people told me this game wasn't that good, and it's also not a game that is talked about a lot in the otome community. However, I decided to give it a chance, as I tend to find things interesting even though a large group of people believe they are bad. And honestly, I don't regret it one bit. I really had fun while playing it, and the story was interesting enough to keep me hooked most of the time. I laughed, I cried, I blushed, and I even squealed like a little girl! While it may not be the best of the lot, it's a game I'll hold dear to my heart.

Oh, 7'scarlet. I have a love-hate relationship with this game. On the more trivial side, due to how buggy the port is and how it kept crashing on me; on the more important side, with how I was so invested and loving it until we got to the final route and ending. As others have mentioned, I also felt there was so much wasted potential. The charm of a small town in the summer, the hazy air of mystery - the build up was so well done that the ending was such a let down. As far as the guys go: I enjoyed pretty much all of them - Hino and Sosuke elicited a "meh" from me; I liked Isora, and loved Toa and Yuzuki. Shinichiro Miki got me and I love a good age gap romance (and I also liked Ichika's personality on his route). HOWEVER: Despite my disappointment, I think it's still worth playing - for the art, the voice acting, and the mystery. Because who knows! Maybe you'll like the ending better than I did.
