This game really captures the fervour of revolution. Even knowing how in real life ultimately all the hopes and dreams were crushed by religion it's hard not to get involved and carried away by it while playing. That is indicative of good writing and masterful atmosphere that really captures and takes you back into that place and time. Voice acting is also top notch. Gameplay-wise this is obviously inspired by the Telltale games but with even less gameplay, so if your looking for puzzles and exploration you should lower your expectations a bit. Also, ending is incredibly abrupt and feels like it ends at half way point. Played on my new Steam Deck, it's perfect on it with very short chapters and touch controls,

I enjoyed it. It's a point and click type story game. It was like a documentary with history lessons built into a game. Good story and interesting characters. It's a bit short but entertaining nonetheless.

1979 Revolution Black Friday is one of those games where I wish you had a neutral option for the review… This narrative driven game, set during the days of the Iranian Revolution as well as shortly after has a great story and interesting characters, quite balanced and rounded, allegedly based on real people and events. From some of the (real) photos and film you one can suspect that this is true. And the fact that the characters feel quite believable gives the claim additional credibility. While this is a great thing, the game it self looks old by now (2024) – which might bother some people. Also, while I like the dialogsm the choice do not affect the story as much as I personally would hope for in such a game. There are also only one or two really challenging quick time events, all in all its more an interactive movie then a classical game. So, if that turns you off, you should stay away. Personally, I really liked the idea of a story-game telling aspects of an historical event from a street and “common” people perspective. But I fell it could have been a little bit longer (the game clocks in somewhat under 3 hours) and painting the different faction on the side of the revolution as well as on the Shahs side in more detail.
