I got a few minesweeper games in my library. They have been decent. But this one is perhaps the one that will eventually get the title 'The Final Minesweeper'. It has all the components needed to reach that status. Base game loop is as following: At first you play the 'basic' game. Win it 5 times and you unlock a new rule set. Then you play that and rinse and repeat until you start to have a plethora of rule sets to choose from and ever expanding grid sizes to try your luck with if you so want. Available rule sets keep expanding and then you start working more on the things you like more, perhaps focus on a few achievements and then... well. That is the game. And it is mind blowing how well the base idea of minesweeper keeps expanding as you play. Some players got over hundred hours on this and it seems believable to me. Game is of course addicting and the different rule sets you unlock keeps you coming back begging for more. Not bad for a game this cheap.

This game is for people who play way too much Minesweeper already and are begging for more. I cannot tell you how this game is if you're not a Minesweeper superfan, but I am one, and I can say that you should absolutely get this game. It is a Minesweeper where every board is completely solvable, and this allows the difficulty to ramp up higher to the point where each board is a worthy challenge. There are a few variants I don't like as much as others, mainly because I haven't figured out the patterns for them yet, but my hours into this game should tell you all you need to know.

This version of Minesweeper is for puzzle fans. You will find no strange shaped grids (so far). Everything is on boring squares. The boring ends there, because this is logical puzzle gameplay at its finest. Every variant adds a rule to Minesweeper that alters the mechanics. For example, there should be at least one mine in every 2x2 square. For example, clues are off by one and indicate either one more or one less mine than appears in their neighborhood. The game expects you to use these rules to figure out what to do next, and it contains homages to other fine pencil puzzles (of the Nikoli variety). This alone might not be enough, were it not for the mindblowing Expert Mode. I strongly recommend turning this on and setting the standard of perfection. If you mark a mine that was not guaranteed to be a mine by the board and rule state, it kills you. If you uncover a square that was not guaranteed to be safe, it kills you. (Technically, it wrecks your perfect rating on a level, though you can finish the level from there.) Sound horrible? It is paired with a strong guarantee that makes this the greatest Minesweeper I have ever played: you never have to guess, and you can complete every puzzle logically from start to finish. What hours of entertainment will you derive? You can scribble on the board for long hours without making progress, trying hypothesis after hypothesis, and looking for a contradiction. You will learn each mechanic in depth and derive rules of thumb for each one. (note: Snake sucks; or maybe I just didn't think hard enough about it) And you will get the supreme satisfaction of a perfect clear on some very hard rule sets. You will feel like a genius, and you will have earned it. I won't spoil what happens after you pass through these gates and conquer these challenges. It is an astounding achievement in puzzle development. My hat is off to the genius developers. There's even a sequel (how?!), but that is the subject for another review. I rate this game 14/10

I've played this game for more than 800 hours. I've not even finished about 5% of the whole game. And still, I'm eager to play this game even more. All that time for a minesweeper game. Doesn't that already tell you enough? Take your shot.

adversarial minesweeper where solutions are unique, everything is solvable without guesses and mines reorganise themselves to make you fail when you try to fill a place by guessing. a lot of rule variants varying in difficulty and sizes. if you're a minesweeper sicko, it's a perfect game
