If you don’t mind costume dramas, cheesy acting, and translation issues then Rebirth! New Lover is worth playing. The premise is that you are a time traveler that has gone back to ancient times and are given a rundown tavern to turn into a top dining destination. Five admirers help you do just that. One becomes the cook, a martial artist handles security, a healer advises on medicinal recipes, a courtesan provides dancing entertainment, and a spoiled brat becomes a server. Crucially all of these admirers have full story arcs. The martial artist wants to be a heroine, to help the downtrodden and punish the wicked, but she’s a bad judge of character. The courtesan is indentured and you will negotiate her freedom. Even the healer has a supernatural bond that needs to be expunged. To help them out, you can travel back to modern day and interact with the future versions of the same admirers, usually to bring back items. The future admirers sometimes have their own mini arcs that mirror the past. For example, the courtesan is a streamer, and she is unhappy about her contract. And the spoiled brat keeps failing for scams. The actresses do a great job in their roles, with some standouts. Xiaobai is brilliant as the lovable brat, and her magic scene is first class. Lin miaoxian, as the healer, brings good emotion. Even Gu qiuhan has some nice sword moves. The male actors bring extra corny performances which can be funny. All these stories go together with the basic goal of building a successful tavern, so the narrative is solid. It is also twice as long as most games in the genre, taking around 4.5 hours to get to the finale. This is because it goes through all admirers arcs. Big choices come mostly down to whether you go back to the future or not—both are viable. However, not meeting the future admirer will lock you out of going to the future later. That said, there are not many branching paths, with a few deaths and failed endings sprinkled around. All up it will take around 7 hours to view every scene, which is still good value. The endings are disappointing though. Each admirer only gets one tiny scene and then a montage of old footage. It is easy to access all endings in one playthrough too. One unique feature is that you can actually say goodbye to someone, which lets players create their own bittersweet ending. Sadly the translation is not great. There are a lot of conversations that are missing English text, so get ready with Google Lens. The rest of the translation is okay but some major choices don’t make sense and the typical gender issues persist. The game also uses ADR (automatic dialogue replacement) for everything. While ADR is always worse than live audio, here it is below average for ADR. Main admirers sound fine and some (Xiaobai) try to match their actual lip-syncing, but side characters sound like they rang up on a Nokia 3310. Video quality is okay, but also could be better. So Rebirth! New Lover gets a pass mark because of the great admirers and their stories, while most of its other features are only average at best. Overall I liked it. The plot was a nice refresh from previous games. That being said, it did not really shine in any particular areas. The English subtitles were often gender and grammatically incorrect. I feel like they used auto translate to make the subs. But i could follow through it pretty well for the most part. At several places, the audio cut out, when talking with the prince. The affection point system is confusing, there is no real way to see how many points you currently have, they only show it at the end of a chapter. The huge elephant in the room though, is the choice of character behaviors. At no point did this take itself seriously, the MC is a sniveling, whiny, wimp. When faced with any significant challenge he whines and shakes like a coward. The uncle is no better, with overdramatized flamboyancy that borders on clown. 3/5 overall, the girls are very pretty and overall its a fun game, even with the above mentioned issues.

Some routes weren't subtitled in English which was a bummer, had to use google translate for those parts. Mini-games were interesting and I had fun going through the story. Overall I enjoyed the game.

Rebirth! New Lover The Story : In this FMV game, you travel to ancient times and solve problems by returning to the modern era to bring modern items back to the ancient world. You can meet the main female characters in both eras. Does this sound interesting? Yes, it is an interesting feature and allows you to see the main female characters in a variety of different outfits, makeup and hairstyle. The Features : This game incorporates features from many FMV games and is most similar to Vanity Fair: The Pursuit (VF) , especially in terms of its plot with multiple death endings. It includes elements from Knowledge or know lady (KoKL) (such as item collection, sensual scenes and some Cantonese phrases), Love is All Around (LiAA) (festival event music scenes and favorability increase and decrease), and Don't Choose Me for the Blind Date Strategy (BD) (attractive character personalities and a straightforward plot). It also introduces its own ideas: time travel to the modern era, featuring various makeup, hairstyle and outfits scenes, and solving problems by bringing modern items to the ancient world. This is something missing in Wishful Journey: Love Across Time (WJ) , which uses some modern items but doesn't show where they come from. All of these elements offer a quite interesting and entertaining experience. This game did it correctly for the favorability increase or decrease on selection options that add some fun and does not follow the LiAA mistake of requiring enough favorability to advance to the next chapter, which can restrict player choices. However, it was a mistake to model the main male character after WJ. It would have been better to use a character like those in LiAA or VF, allowing the player character to remain neutral and better accommodate diverse player preferences. Fortunately, the player character in this game is not as proactive in speaking as in WJ; otherwise, it could be very annoying. Unlike other FMV games where you typically select each option only once during your first playthrough, in this game, you should explore all the options and choose the best one. This is the best way to play the game and makes it more enjoyable—trust me. The plot of this game doesn’t diverge; it essentially follows a single path throughout each chapter. It’s a simple and straightforward plot, which isn’t a bad idea. However, if you select only one option until you reach the end and then come back to try other options, it won’t offer a significantly different experience, as the plot remains a single path throughout. So, make your first playthrough more enjoyable by trying all the options. The Characters' Profiles : As always, I take this as an interesting activity to guess each character’s personality while playing the game. There is no horoscope Sun sign (representing inner self, objective) in the profiles of the main female characters in this game. To know their Sun sign, look at the ending of each character and what they do; this reflects their aspirations in life. For their Rising sign (outer self, behavior and actions), this is what you think they are. The Sun and Rising signs are important for understanding a person, which can help in selecting the right options in the game. Below are characters in this game and their personality in horoscope viewpoint: Character Sun Rising Qing'er Taurus Cancer Xiao bai Sagittarius Aries Gu Qiuhan Aquarius Pisces + Aries (Rising/other sign) Lin Miaoxian Cancer Scorpio + Virgo (Rising/other sign) Mingyue Rao Gemini Pisces Unlike most love simulator FMV games, where the main female characters show interest in the player, this game takes a more realistic approach by having them deny their interest. This approach is effective in its own way. The Cons : The cons of this game are the filming scenes for each plot are quite short/rushed, and the story of each plot is not deep enough, making it an easily forgettable experience, even though it is very entertaining and beautiful to see the main female characters in different outfits and hairstyles. Chapter 1 is not very interesting and is more like a prologue, but it becomes better in the subsequent chapters. The bigger flaw of this game is the ending. Actually, there is nothing wrong with the ending, but it lacks touching stories and fails to leave an unforgettable memory for the player. The game is like having '1 mile wide but missing 1 mile deep.' It is very interesting and entertaining due to its various features, but it lacks depth in the story—it does not provide significant emotional or intellectual substance, and it does not offer a particularly meaningful or memorable experience. It could be that the game had a limited budget, affecting the filming of the ending and preventing it from having more depth in the story. The finishing touches were incomplete at release, and updates were made a week later. They should have postponed the release until all finishing touches were completed, as the initial release is crucial for capturing players' interest, influencing their decision to purchase the game, and ultimately impacting the game's popularity and sales. Updates after the initial release do not capture players' attention or make them aware of the changes. I played this game a week after it was released (following the recent major update). The game still has many areas that could benefit from additional finishing touches, and some endings still lack sufficient explanation. Perhaps releasing the English subtitles along with additional finishing touches would be important for targeting another group of players. The Conclusion and Score : 8/10 (Undeniable Unrefined Sub Masterpiece) – This game is undeniably interesting, stylish, and entertaining. However, due to its unrefined finishing touches and story that lacks depth, it doesn’t reach the level of a masterpiece, settling as a sub-masterpiece. With more refined finishing touches, especially a longer and more extended ending—even if these improvements are just in the written script—and adding more background music (which could feel significantly different), the game could become more satisfying and potentially achieve a score of 9/10 (Almost Masterpiece). Finishing touches and background music are fundamental and greatly enrich the overall experience.

i love ancient china stories, so this is very fun imo the plot can be very ridiculous at times but the girls are really pretty and for the price with discount now, very worth it!
